China sends aid, rescue team to quake-hit Haiti

China sent an emergency rescue team Wednesday evening to quake-hit Haiti, where several thousands of lives may have been claimed.

Chinese leadership expressed sympathy with and deep condolence to the Haitian people for their loss in the strongest ever quake in about 200 years in the Caribbean islands country, with which China has no diplomatic relations.

Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao have demanded the related Chinese government departments and rescue group to help uncover those being buried, protect Chinese nationals there and provide humanitarian aid.

The team included search and rescue personnel and doctors, who have conducted many similar tasks in the past years, as well as three sniffer dogs.

"Most of the members are very experienced," said Liu Xiangyang, deputy chief of the National Earthquake Disaster Emergency Rescue Team, before their departure.

The team will also take some 10 tonnes of food, equipment and medicine on the special plane.

"We take limited equipment and personnel due to time deadline, limited capacity of transportation and long-distance," said DoctorHou Shike, head of the medical group.

Chinese leaders are very concerned with the safety of Chinese nationals.

China is also a major victim of earthquakes, including the May 12 quake that hit southwest China's Sichuan Province in 2008.

Haiti is stricken with poverty due to decades of imperialist exploitationist policies of USA. Now China must provide help.

Ha, the mighty USA does something sensible and profits off of the Haitian people, while the pathetic and naive Chinese waste resourses on flood relief. Some up-and-coming power you tools are.
 
Can people living in China even see justplainpolitics? I know they pretty much censor everything there sort of like North Korea does.
 
Sweet! Good on the Chinese. I'm sure the Hatians can use all the help they can get. It should be a huge help to get some lead paint for the rebuilding. They could really use some tainted milk right about now, so that's another big plus. And it won't be long until the Hatians require all new low-cost, low-quality electronic equipment.

The US is providing a temporary control tower for the airport as well as giving food, etc...

Good for China. I knew they would come around. People do not know that Japan is a major(if not the major) provider of humanitarian aid in the world. I predict China to surpass them.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu told a regular press briefing four of the missing Chinese were from a six-member working group of the Ministry of the Public Security. "We will closely follow the disaster and aid information, and try our best to offer assistance to overseas Chinese in Haiti," said Jiang.

Other Chinese in Haiti including those working for China's trade office were safe.

China has sent a total of 142 police peacekeepers to Haiti.

why would the Chinese have had Ministry of Public Security people in Haiti?......were they keeping an eye on the Haitians to make sure they didn't threaten to invade the security of the Chinese public?

God---you are one of those "Blame America first" after Clinton gave aid to Haiti from 92 to 2000 (and lots of it) so they are in worse shape today.

Do you know how much we just gave China? I think it is 100 million so far, and I am fine with that. Do you know how much China has offered as of yesterday (1/13/10)? The gave 1 million dollars.

So I advise you look at facts---before you "Blame America first"

Sorry we could not be there to hold up the buildings for them---but the fact is--the USA donates more to global catastrophies than anybody in the world.

I really can't stand people like you---and wish we would just deport you for treason.
