Great article on an issue we discussed a few weeks ago.

Why Republicans are trying to convince Americans we are not a Democracy.


As I discussed here, they are not a major party and Democracy does not work for them anymore, so pretend its not an American value of that we were not founded on Democratic principal's.

Abandoning Democracy is what the Republican party has come to.
 
The United States is in fact a limited democracy in the form of a Constitutional Republic,
but is burdened by an inefficient format that compromises every one of its functions.

The Republican mindset among the rank and file, at least,
is that a Christian authority comparable to the Islamist Taliban is the way to go.

Our present SCOTUS is such an authority.
Absent the much missed RBG, it's in fact an abomination.

No devout fundamentalist Christian is comfortable with a civilized society.
Social sophistication is anathema to them, much like proper education.

For the one millionth time this isnt a democracy shithead. Do you vote on every matter of govt business?

It is not a direct democracy, but as you keep forgetting or pretending not to know... there are several types of Democracy. We live in a Representative Democracy, aka A Democratic Republic, which is limited by the Constitution.

The current Republicans are desperate to take the Democracy out of our Democratic Republic so they can rule with might instead of with the will of the people. Rule of man is their goal, not rule of law.

It's not a direct democracy. Very good poindexter. We use a principle of democracy, "majority rules" but this isn't a democracy. Get the fuck over it already.

this is the sleight of hand bullshit that needs to be eviscerated from public view. there is a reason why the US is a REPUBLIC and NOT a democracy, and that it is specifically so that the will of the people can be ignored, if necessary.

The will of the people can be ignored, because we are a representative Democracy. We do not vote directly on the issues, we vote for the people who make those decisions, and those we VOTE for can make laws within the limits set by the Constitution. Those who represent us are elected with DEMOCRATIC! vote.

The representatives also use a DEMOCRATIC vote to make laws.

Some say American is a oligarchy, not a democracy. Others say America is a corporate two-party duopoly, not a democracy. We're seeing it now with the attempt to take down the No Labels Party.

So some of these cries of the desire to support or 'save' our democracy ring rather hollow.
 
I mean, we can start pulling out quotes from former Republican heroes like Reagan who talked about America as a democracy all of the time.

They've moved so far away from those days. Like the OP said: the idea of democracy doesn't work for the GOP anymore.

the proposed government a representative democracy.

1. House of representatives directly chosen by the people for two years.
2. Senate indirectly chosen by them for six years
3. President indirectly chosen by them for four years.
☞ Thus legislative and executive representatives of the people.

The founders were smart enough to know that we are a representative democracy and not just a republic.
Hamilton's notes point out that monarchies and aristocracies can also be republics.

“Jarod” couldn’t have explained it to you any better, no one ever said it was a direct democracy, rather a democratic republic, democratically we elected those to represent us in a Republican form of Government, how in the hell did you think we elected our representatives

Any form of democracy is by definition democracy.
