Hertz plans for EVs to make up 25% of its 500,000 vehicles. MAGA soils diapers.

I guess it depends on the car. Oh well, to each his own.

Have you ever driven an EV?

Only on a golf course.
They have both electric and gasoline and maybe even gas powered golf carts, although I'm not sure about the latter.
I know that they have the latter in factories and in big stores.

I've never personally had a golf cart break down on me, regardless of type.

Also diesel trains.
On trains, the diesel engines don't power the wheels as on a diesel truck or car.
They power on-board generators and electric motors run the train.
I never understood why, but that's what I've been told.

Because electric motors are more efficient and require less maintenance.

Yes, but the trains aren't running on a battery charge, Joe.

The trains are running on a big, smelly, on-board diesel engine running the electric generator.

They have to run and maintain that internal combustion engine anyway.

There's a reason why they don't have it drive the train's wheels directly
but it's never been explained to me.

Electric motors have instant torque like steam engines do. So neither require transmissions like a 100% diesel drive would need. That is why they go diesel to electric drive,

Hopefully I or someone else has mentioned in this thread that they have changed their minds about 25% by the end of 2024....they dont say what it will be but it wont be that.....they are ruining the profitability of the company.

Volvo Cars' sales in October grew 10% from a year earlier to 59,861 cars as fully electric car sales jumped, the Sweden-based group said on Friday.

Volvo Cars said in a statement sales of fully electric cars rose 29% to account for 18% of all its cars sold in the month. In total, all recharge models were up 7% to account for 36% of total sales.
Shares in the group, which is majority-owned by China's Geely Holding (0175.HK), were up 6% in morning trade, taking the year-to-date drop to 12%.
CEO Jim Rowan last week said he saw healthy demand for Volvo cars and widening profit margins for its battery electric vehicles (BEV) this quarter.

Thanks.
That make total sense.

Tesla’s investment in new technologies like lithium processing should be a win for the environment, as any step taken toward streamlining the production and sale of EVs is a step toward decreasing our collective carbon pollution. The average gas-guzzling car produces more than 10,000 pounds of carbon pollution per year, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. EVs, on the other hand, have substantially reduced footprints when it comes to pollution, so expanding our ability to drive them has a positive effect on the planet.

Oh no! Joe Crapitalist wets and craps his panties which totally destroys the effect of his sexy thong.

Hertz is pumping the brakes on plans to electrify more of its rental car fleet after EV repair costs came in higher than the company anticipated, and after Tesla
price cuts reduced the resale value of the majority of electric cars in its fleet by about one-third.

Scherr also said, “MSRP declines in EVs over the course of 2023, driven primarily by Tesla, have driven the fair market value of our EVs lower as compared to last year, such that as salvage creates a larger loss and therefore greater burden.”

The reality of electric vehicles is that they can be 1,000 pounds heavier or more than gas vehicles, and they move faster, with higher torque. Since they’re extremely zippy and heavier, it’s just physics — the ability to overcome inertia so quickly is going to effect their suspension systems, the brakes and steering columns. It’s counter-intuitive, but even with fewer moving parts they are susceptible to requiring more maintenance. They especially require tire-swapping, because the tires wear out more quickly from that high torque and weight.”

No, they are not. The company had done serious calculations before they decided to make the move. There are electric delivery vehicles all over American cities. The EV revolution is here. They are far cheaper to maintain. When we get delivery by EVs I ask the delivery person how they like it, None has criticized them. The company knows that the maintenance costs will plummet. The price of gas will become a smaller and smaller concern. It makes their jobs easier and more profitable.,

I don't understand why the far right is so anti-EV that they have to post deceptive info.
EVs are here to stay. They are no longer a niche market. On average, 14 Superchargers are being installed in America PER WEEK. There's a reason why EVERY MAJOR CAR MANUFACTURER now makes electric vehicles. EVs are becoming more affordable, batteries are cheaper and range is higher from just three years ago.
If they can't see how EVs are trending, they're truly Blinded by the right.

So the Chinese are 'selling' electric cars. Meh.

Carbon is not a pollution.
You are not 'saving the planet' with EVs.

They are NOT cheaper to maintain. They are far more expensive to maintain.

It is YOU posting deceptive info. It is YOU not talking about sales of gasoline and diesel cars and trucks.

They are a niche market.

On average, 14 Superchargers are being installed in America PER WEEK.

All subsidized.

There's a reason why EVERY MAJOR CAR MANUFACTURER now makes electric vehicles.

They don't. Blatant lie.

EVs are becoming more affordable,

No, they aren't. They are subsidized.

batteries are cheaper and range is higher from just three years ago.

No they aren't. They are subsidized.

If they can't see how EVs are trending,

Mandates and heavy subsidies, and the EV is STILL falling out of favor (again).

they're truly Blinded by the right.
No, you are truly blinded by your religion.

They are NOT cheaper to maintain. They are far more expensive to maintain.

I think it has more to do with they are expensive to use in the real world because of fire risk/lability and because they are so expensive to repair....even a fender bender can easily total an EV.

The lack of thinking that went into the demand that we switch to EV's would shock me if I did not see similar recklessness all through America as it collapses.

This was again ideology/WOKE religion trumping reality.

The only make of car more expensive to insure than a Tesla is a Maserati...
