DeSantis denies wearing lifts in his boots, but some experts say otherwise

I support it to a certain extent, but some women, like Joan Rivers and Donatello Verace take it too far and ruin their looks.

I am okay with it when people have a deformity, but that's really it. I almost always prefer the way people look before surgery, not after.

Jesus, Jarod. Does it really matter whether he wears lifts or not?

I believe a person who is desperate enough to try to appear taller to wear boots that make him stumble and fall, or a person who pancakes makeup all over his face of an unnatural color is often afflicted with an inferiority complex and would likely be a weak leader with an outsized ego that very likely would interfere with his/her ability to do the job.

Its not a disqualifier but something Id look at for sure.

My experience is that short men who are desperate to appear taller are often, not always, weak men who go out of their way to overperform in the areas of dominance and bullying.

If it’s superficial nonsense and no big deal, he would admit he does it.

That’s just my two cents. It’s like women who have plastic surgery or injections and deny it?
Why deny it when it’s so very obvious.

I view women the same as men when it comes to superficiality. Woman in American culture are often judged by their appearance so I sympathize a bit when a 34A wants to be a 34B (average) or has a wart on her nose. No so much for women who want to look 30 at age 60 or have what appears to be cantaloupes stuck to their chest.

Men I judge more harshly in American culture because, unlike women, they are judged more on deeds than appearance. A man who tries to slide by on appearance is an empty suit IMO.

Agreed and well said.

People use cosmetic everything everyday to try to enhance themselves beyond their own natural state.

Perfume and cologne
Makeup
Hair coloring
Tattoos
Skin lifts and tucks
Boob jobs
Manicures

On and on. Most of us don’t give a shit about any of that. Just as they should about this one. Petty. Irrelevant.

This reminds me of the photos of Michelle Obama with a "package"... and I trust them about the same amount as I trust the images of Lady Gaga supposedly "tucking".

The photos of Michelle Obama with a "package" were obviously Photoshopped.

The pictures of DeSantis' boots are obviously not.

Sounds to me like you are only equating the two because you feel it simultaneously gives you the appearance of looking reasonable and fair minded, neither of which I believe for an instant that you are, while at the same time offering up a denial that DeSantis is so pathetically vain, shallow and image conscious that he'd do something as pathetic and laughable as putting heel lifts in his boots.

As for Lady Gag, I've made it a point to never look at pictures of or listen to audio of "her", so I'll take your word on that.

Though I really wouldn't care if he was short I also wouldn't care much if he wanted to appear taller and wore some height "enhancers"... Neither one of those things affect his job. That's where we should focus rather than such superficial nonsense.

You have no idea whether it affects his job performance or not.

For one thing, it goes directly to his character and integrity.

You call focusing on it "superficial nonsense", but him actually doing it, which it looks like he does, is much more superficial and more nonsensical, but you'd give him a pass.

Also, if he's willing to try to fool the public on something like that, then what else is he willing to be less than honest about?

But for all their fake rhetoric to the contrary, Republicans don't give a crap about character or personal integrity anymore.

The popularity of Dumpster Donnie Trump is solid proof of that.

I totally disagree.

Anyone that vain and shallow cannot be trusted and should not be in a position of political power.

I think the daughter was attractive the way she was prior, the boys not so much.
Ivanka’s plastic surgery started early, breast augmentation when she was a teenager, suggested by her father to boost her modeling career. Followed by rhinoplasty to get rid of the bump on her nose!

I think its all kind of sick. Make up and perfume are cheep and temporary so its not such a big deal unless they over use it. Overuse is a sign of likely mental illness.

Agreed.

It goes straight to who he is as a person and the kind of person he is.

Anyone who is that image conscious might do anything just to enhance his public image.

In DeSantis' case, we've seen example after example of the kind of outrageous public chest thumping he uses the state legislature to engage in for the sole purpose of establishing himself as a "big tough guy".

This is just another warning signal to us all that he should never get anywhere near the White House.

I don’t deny using makeup and manicures, though. If it’s no big deal, it should be no big deal.

Agreed on overuse.

FWIW, when Erin Burnett was reporting from Israel, she had a minimum of makeup and hairstyling, including coloring. IMO she was a lot hotter there than behind her desk in the US.

People who overuse makeup, perfume/cologne and other superficial means of enhancing themselves are missing the most attractive part of themselves; self-confidence.

There's a reason why this assclown is so thin-skinned that he wanted the FCC to shutdown SNL, his ego is as weak and fragile as a moth.

Light makeup of women is common in our culture. Certainly you know women who overinduldge.

What do you think of straight men who use makeup? Eyeliner? Not on stage as part of a band or play, but on a date with a young woman?

Manicures are part of personal hygiene. I don't consider plucking nose and ear hairs to be superficial in comparison to facelifts, makeup and butt implants.

Agreed. His actions reveal his true character and it's not befitting someone who should be in the White House.

I don’t care what people do to themselves, I just think it’s silly when they deny they do it!

Agreed. It's a matter of character.

Still, anyone who dresses up garishly is could use some counseling or group therapy.

Over 15 years ago I liked to attend gym classes, usually after jogging. I usually worked Fri-Mon and went to yoga, body tone and cycle classes during the week. This almost always meant I was the only guy in a room full of moms. Two things I learned about women there was why they only painted their toes (fingernails were always chipping from housework) and why women over 30 streaked their hair (to hide the gray).

It's normal for people to want to present a neat and clean appearance. If dating, or in a public job requiring it, men should pay a little more attention to their appearance. Women wearing light makeup is also normal. Either sex wearing noticeable "war paint" is extreme and, IMO, indicates a lack of self-confidence.

FWIW, having self-confidence is the sexiest trait I desire in a mate.
