Apollo astronaut Col. Frank Borman, who commanded the first mission to orbit the moon, has died in Billings, Montana, NASA announced. He was 95.

“Today we remember one of NASA’s best. Astronaut Frank Borman was a true American hero. Among his many accomplishments, he served as the commander of the Apollo 8 mission,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson Thursday in a statement.

May God have mercy on his soul. He is from a time when people knew what a man and a woman are. RIP Frank.

Besides the historic 1968 Christmas circling of the Moon, I remember Col. Borman for his comment during the Apollo 1 investigation, that it was a "failure of imagination".

Lessons Learned

Apollo 1 was referred to by Frank Borman as a failure of imagination. They couldn’t imagine a ground test
could be hazardous. Keep vigilant and have an active imagination of possible hazards
