A majority of American adults would not be willing to serve in the military were the U.S. to enter into a major war, recent polling has found, while public confidence in the armed forces appears to be waning.

The figures come as all branches of the armed forces have in recent years struggled to meet their recruitment targets, suggesting a growing apathy towards a career of military service. In 2023, the Army and Air Force fell short of their respective goals by around 10,000 recruits, while the Navy was under by 6,000. Since 1987, the number of active-duty personnel has fallen by 39 percent.

A poll by the research institute Echelon Insights of 1,029 likely voters, conducted between October 23-26, found that 72 percent of those asked would not be willing to volunteer to serve in the armed forces were America to enter a major conflict, compared with 21 percent who would. The remainder were unsure. The poll was conducted after Hamas led an unprecedented militant attack on Israel on October 7.

the last couple of generations of Americans have been raised to be weak and cowardly. Maybe we do need a 3rd world war to weed out that apathy and weakness

Are they weak and cowardly or do they simply now with the dawn of social media, see the lies that warmongers use to send them off to their deaths for pointless causes, and see how shitty the government treats soldiers after they've used them for their goals and they come back with physical and mental wounds that receive little to no decent treatment? They've gotten to see an entire generation of war and the fucking shitty way their brothers, sisters, fathers, etc., have been treated by the government for their service. Who the fuck would want to join?

If we do need WW III, it will have nothing to do with wither weakness or apathy.
It will be the ultimate proof that the human species evolved poorly and needed to be replaced.


World War II was the last time Americans have been required to fight an existential war.
Three nations declared war on us.
THEY DECLARED WAR ON US.
Nobody has declared war on us since.

None of our subsequent wars have had anything to do with protecting America.
American wasn't threatened.

Most of them have had to do with either not letting people determine for themselves
what kind of economic / political system that they want [Vietnam]
or
with flat out war profiteering [Iraq].

Afghanistan might leave some room for discussion,
depending on how much you think they participated in 9/11 preparations.

Note that we never laid a finger on our oligarchs' business partners, the Saudis, of course.
That would be the people who flew the planes into the skyscrapers, by the way.

A probably more meaningful war would be to stop Putin from becoming the next Hitler,
but we don't pick on people close to our own size.

They have to declare war on us.

IS this how you justify siding with the war mongers?

society is far from too far gone. but you don't even participate in advocating for things.

we should stay peaceful. society is salvageable.

your watch it all burn attitude plays into the hands of the psychotics.

stay peaceful everybody. do not be goaded or shame by agent provocateurs into something stupid.

stay peaceful. do not go to protests.

and most importantly NEVER COMPLY.

If you want peace, be prepared for war. Being prepared for war, and showing a willingness to go there, is the BEST motivator for peace from other sides. If you need to classify that as siding with the warmongerers, you're not for peace, you're just being passive.
