I grew up in a culture where kissing just to say hello, even on the mouth,
is not regarded to be affiliated with Mr. Johnson in any way, shape, or form.
Even if one pretends that it is,
that's simply regarded as friendly and harmless flirting.
OK. I get it.
I'm not describing Omaha or Wichita.
I'm not describing Sodom and Gomorrah, either
My impression is
that people in a coastal, urban metropolis type place are more intact with the idea
that not all people are the same.
Perhaps it's because we deal with so many different kinds of people every day.
Middle Americans seem to genuinely think that all people ought to be the same.
They also seem to believe that all people should adopt their protocols.
I could be wrong, and tell me if I am,
but it certainly seems that way from my perspective.
In the end though,
the reality is that I probably just couldn't live in Wichita or Omaha.
The blandness of it all would make me suicidal.
