I’ve been reading a lot of articles, both pro and con, about transgenders in women’s sports. I see a common theme.

Without exception, the cases against transgenders boils down to ONE thing and one thing only. Winning. That’s it.

That’s where we get off track (no pun intended). High school and collegiate sports are SUPPOSED to be about inclusivity, setting personal and collective goals, well being, dealing with adversity, preparing one for the trials and tribulations beyond the sport itself. NOT merely crushing the competition. That’s where the focus has been lost on this issue. It’s become the binary win/lose mentality. That serves no good purpose.

Nick Saban, Alabama’s football coach is arguably the best in history. Even though I dislike SEC football, I respect his coaching philosophy. Process over outcome.

It’s the inner scoreboard that counts.
Focus on doing your best in every situation.
Trust in the process. Your training, mentally and physically.
Focus on the things you can control, not the ones you can’t.

When someone does these things, success will follow more often than not. And success doesn’t always mean winning.

I keep coming back to your issue of winning. If winning isn't the most important aspect of organized sports, then why do men get a pass when they choose to compete against women?

Why not continue to compete against men, and get trounced?

I do see that male swimmers aren't allowed to have any shirts or suits that come over their waist. The kid in question put bandages on his nipples when he was still competing against men.

Life is about choices. I'm all for people achieving mental stability if they have suffered for years over gender issues. At what point do they have to make choices too? Like not being able to compete against women if they transition.

We now know that NCAA will be taking muscle mass, and lung capacity into consideration instead of a generic hormone test.

If they can truly level the playing field, so be it. But we now see male weight lifters breaking women's records. Is their desire to win that strong?

People are trying to equate pro athletes to high school and collegiate sports. They are not the same animal and it’s inappropriate and dangerous to do so.

Thankfully. Pro sports will not allow trans athletes to dominate.

But there are still high school and college records that are kept, and there is a reason for that. This is still fairly new. I think we might see different categories w/respect to records, which would be a good compromise.

It’s similar to youth sports… a 14 year old cannot compete against a 6 year old…it’s a fairness issue.

I am aware of hetero women who have had to compete against men in school wrestling because there is no women's team.

They do pretty well, and it puts a lot of pressure on the boys in their weight class.

And THAT is what Title IX attempts to address. Making sports fair for EVERYONE.

I can’t comment on anyone’s personal agenda, but if you think someone goes through the process of transgendering just to win, I think you’re way off the mark. Most transgenders have probably suffered an entire lifetime of struggle, trying to figure out who they are, family and friend rejection. On and on.

But to suggest they go through this process just to win? Naw. Don’t buy it.

Probably so. I’m closer to 70 than 69 now.

But, I did run a half marathon in September with 10 minute miles. A 7 mile run this morning at 9:15/mile. Working towards a marathon in a couple months.

Name someone doing the transition to win a swimming meet. The treatments they take cross-sex hormone treatments after age 16. They also take Testerone blockers and hormone replacement treatment. Since they are in between, what is fair to them?

It's a sad situation, but why put the needs of a transgender over the needs of the 20-30 girls they are beating in swim competition?

Maybe a solution will be found when a transgender boxer beats a woman to death in the ring. Sure, given the LW support for "fairness" maybe they'll have to kill two or three women before enough people say "This ain't right!"

The alternative, of course, is to have all sports unisex. You know, to be fair to all. It's about equality.
