Gold bars stashed in Dem senator's home recovered after 2013 violent robbery

Several gold bars discovered by federal agents in Democratic New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez's residence as part of a high-profile bribery investigation can be traced to a violent robbery a decade ago.

According to a sprawling indictment unsealed by federal prosecutors in September, Menendez and his wife allegedly played a role in a years-long bribery scheme that involved the Egyptian government and local businessmen including Fred Daibes, a wealthy New Jersey real estate developer. Prosecutors revealed they retrieved multiple gold bars from Menendez's home which were allegedly used as payment in the scheme.

At least four of the gold bars discovered by investigators can be linked to Daibes, both because of their unique engraved serial numbers and thanks to court documents related to a 2013 robbery which Daibes was a victim of, an NBC New York investigation revealed Monday. In November 2013, four assailants beat and robbed Daibes at gunpoint in his Edgewater, New Jersey, apartment, stealing 22 gold bars, jewelry and cash.

"Each gold bar has its own serial number," Daibes told local investigators in a 2014 transcript obtained by NBC New York. "They’re all stamped … you’ll never see two stamped the same way."...

The Republican lead house expelled the dirt bag George Santos. When will the Democrat lead Senate expel the dirtbag Menendez? What is stopping them? This is the second time he has been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

Santos lied to get elected but so did Joe Biden. Santos allegedly stole from contributors Menendez allegedly sold access to his office. Joe Biden did that too. It's time that EVERY last Democrat that cried about Santos to clean their own house.

Will Democrats move to ban Menendez?

The two cases have major differences.

First of all, Santos was an embarrassment to the GOP. He told the most preposterous and absurd lies imaginable to get elected, then used campaign money to finance his "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" fantasies.

And none of that is in serious dispute.

Menendez OTOH, has enough of a plausible explanation for where the large amounts of cash came from, that he deserves a chance to make his case in a court of law prior to any punishment by Congress.

The right's attempts at drawing a false equivalence are as usual, lame and weak upon scrutiny.

Menendez? He is now and always has been a scumbag. He should resign. The fake outrage from the fake doc is pretty funny though. He's defending George Santos? Cool.

I'm not sure if the Senate has an ethics committee, if so they should investigate Menendez and then expel him.

Well, what is the Republican Led House Ethics Committee going to do about it?

WHAT HAS DISTRACTED ALL OF THEIR FOCUS AWAY FROM THIS? I mean, after all, the DEMOCRATS HAVE ASKED FOR THIS MAN'S head to be on a platter and have all asked him to step down. THAT'S ALL WE CAN DO WHEN THE REPUBLICLOWNS ARE IN CHARGE OF THE ETHICS COMMITTEE!

Well, let me tell you why!

THE THRUST AND FROTHING OUT THE MOUTH TO IMPEACH JOE BIDEN FOR HELPING HIS SON MAKE SOME CAR PAYMENTS!.[Geeko Sportivo]

How about even balancing last years budget?

AFTER ALL, PRIORITIES ARE PRIORITIES NOW- AREN'T THEY NEIGHBOR? WOW, THIS MUST BE AN ELECTION YEAR!

I have always conmed Santos and am glad he is gone. I hope convictions will follow. The only difference between Santos and Menendez is Santos stole from his contributors and Menendez sold out the country. And well of course Menendez is a Democrat so of course you Libratrds will try to make excuses for him. Now run along and make some Uber Eats deliveries.

They got Santos expelled from the House. Menendez is in the Democrat controlled Senate Senate so I expect the Republican House will do nothing. :rofl2:

Little Lizard is the cold weather slowing you thought processes down?

The House is a check and balance as to what goes on in Congress- BOTH CHAMBERS! And they can investigate and impeach anyone in Congress!

Impeachments start in the House! In fact, that is a function of the HOUSE!

But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Impeaching Biden for helping his son make some car payments is more important- AND MORE FUN! HUH?

Menendez has been formally charged and indicted.

Meaning he will face a judge and jury who will decide if he's guilty or non guilty.

He has a plausible defense that will be scrutinized in court.

Santos' lies and crimes are pretty much open and shut.

He's an embarrassment to Congress and the GOP was more concerned about their image than justice.

Oh please :rofl2: Menendez had money stuffed in his clothing and gold bars  He has no bank records that correspond to that kind of cash withdrawal. Santos alleged crimes have not gone to court and neither has Menendez's alleged crimes. I can see allowing them both to stay until proven guilty but not one and not the other. Personally I think they both should be given the boot. The Republicans took out their trash now it's the Dems turn. I doubt they will though.

So apparently Democrats are willing to overlook bribery as long as you are a Democrat. Joe Bribem and Menendez should be fine.

It's up to the Democrat controlled Senate to expel their own trash. They don't need the House.

Article I, section 5, of the U.S. Constitution provides that each house of Congress may "punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two-thirds, expel a member." Since 1789 the Senate has expelled only 15 members. I agree with uncle Fester on this one.

Moments after nearly all Democrats and many Republicans voted to expel Rep. George Santos (R-New York) from Congress, Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) became among the first prominent Democrats to publicly call for the expulsion of Sen. Bob Menendez (D-New Jersey), who has pleaded not guilty to bribery and conspiracy charges.

“He has to go,” Fetterman, speaking Friday morning on ABC’s “The View,” said of Menendez. “If you are going to expel Santos, how can you allow somebody like Menendez to remain in the Senate?”

Fetterman called Menendez’s alleged actions “much more sinister and serious” than Santos’s.

Fetterman went on to call Menendez “a senator for Egypt, not New Jersey.”

No Sir!

The United States Constitution provides that the House of Representatives "shall have the sole Power of Impeachment" (Article I, section 2) and "the Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments …

An impeachment proceeding formally begins with a resolution adopted by the full House of Representative. An impeachment resolution may first pass through a House committee before the full House votes on it. The type of impeachment resolution determines the committee to which it is referred.

Article I, section 5, of the U.S. Constitution provides that "Each House [of Congress] may determine the Rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two-thirds, expel a member." Censure is a form of discipline used by the Senate against its members (sometimes referred to as condemnation or denouncement). A formal statement of disapproval, a censure does not remove a senator from office. Since 1789 the Senate has censured nine of its members.

Did you notice Santos was not impeached he was expelled. Did the Senate have a 2/3rds vote or ANY vote on Santos NO SIR THEY DID NOT! The Senate can expel Menendez without impeachment by the House.

Fuck that shit.

The Repugnants were so embarrassed by Santos's behavior they finally scraped up enough balls between them to get rid of him. But they were only worried about their image. If Santos had been a macho redneck, gun-loving Bible thumper instead of an openly gay former drag queen, he'd still be in office and under no threat of expulsion.

So apparently Democrats are willing to overlook bribery as long as you are a Democrat. Joe Bribem and Menendez should be fine.

And apparently Repugnants are willing to overlook being a traitor, fomenting an insurrection, trying to overthrow the government, stealing and showing off classified documents and a laundry list of other felonies as long as you are a Repugnant. Which is why they refused to even hear the impeachment cases against Dumpster Donnie in the Repugnant controlled Senate.

But I could've just responded to your idiotic bullshit with just one word.... TRUMP.

You are nuts they got rid of Santos for lying to his voters and stealing from them. That is what Menendez and Joe Bribem have done.

You are nuts they got rid of Santos for lying to his voters and stealing from them. That is what Menendez and Joe Bribem have done.

That was the "official" reason.

But the real reason and why they finally decided to pull the trigger, is because Santos is such a flake and because he doesn't act like the kind of macho redneck idiot right-winger voters want on their team.

If Menendez was a Republican and did the same things he's alleged to have done, he'd be in the same position he's in right now.

Biden hasn't done anything according to the available evidence.

Oh well.... nuthin' ye kin do. :dunno:
