As Democrats push for more electric cars and a fossil-fuel-free nations, Republicans are pushing to shut down government over "the Wall". Neither seem interested in pushing for solving the problems facing Americans on a daily basis. While the link below points to "light at the end of the tunnel" 22 years from now, that's not helping families now.

Americans Pinched as Electricity Costs Hit All-Time Highs
Electricity rates in the U.S. soared to all-time highs in September, with Americans facing the sting of higher energy bills.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a spike to $0.171 per kilowatt-hour in September, presenting a harsh reality against the backdrop of a seemingly robust economy. While costs moderated to $0.169 per kilowatt-hour in October, industry experts point to a web of causes including geopolitical tensions, global pandemics, and green energy transitions which indicate that the days of stable, low-cost electricity might be fading and a new reality may be emerging....

...Will I Have High Electric Bills Forever?
There is light at the end of the tunnel. "Some of these factors are subsiding," Thomson explained, "and since regulated utilities are required to pass cost decreases through to customers as well as cost increases, some customers could see lower bills in the coming year."

The U.S. Power Utilities & Renewables leader told Newsweek that as the industry increasingly turns to renewable sources like wind and solar, which are not fuel-reliant, the potential for moderating costs emerges. "Over time, as the share of electricity generated by renewables such as wind and solar continues to grow, it could tend to moderate costs since those energy sources do not use fuel, and those savings would be passed on to customers," he noted.

He remains optimistic about the long-term impact of renewable energy, adding, "As the energy transition progresses, households that electrify their energy use by replacing fossil-fueled cars, heating systems, and other appliances with EVs, heat pumps and electric appliances could potentially see as much as a 40 percent decrease in household energy bills by 2045."

And these companies are making big profits. When do we say enough?

They are federally regulated (except for the Texas grid) that means their profit is set by the federal government. Part of the problem is the federal government is restricting fracking which drives the price of natural gas up. Wind and solar have to be backed up by fossil and nuclear or hydro electric so it is more expensive.

Texas energy costs are 10% lower than the national average.

Exactly what is wrong with unregulated, unfettered capitalism.

What happens when the wind does not blow or the sun isn't shinning?

When the sun isn't shinning we won't have to hop around because our legs hurt from getting kicked in the shin.

But just so you know, when the sun isn't shining and the wind isn't blowing, there will be no life on the planet. But before the sun stops shining the planet will likely be swallowed up by the sun as it expands and slowly dies.

Correct. Unfettered capitalism will only end up like the war of immortal warriors in "Highlander"; there can only be one.

Corporations will feed on each other only one remains. It's their nature.

Do you have any evidence to back up this claim?

Federal government does not set profit of electrical companies. Your statement shows your ignorance.

Utilities do not operate in a normal free market system where prices and profits are determined by the willingness of consumers to pay. Instead, they are “regulated monopolies” in which public officials guarantee the companies a monetary return on their investments while also fixing prices for consumers.

And from the OP

Will I Have High Electric Bills Forever?

Federal regulated public utilities and have a fixed profit rate. Their costs go up that cost is passed along to the customer their cost goes down and the reduced costs are passed along to the customer.

My older brother and his wife were both high level engineers for Texas utilities when the Texas grid was federally regulated and I have had this discussion with him many times. Federal regulation fixes the maximum profit rate an energy company can make.

Natural gas costs was $2.71 per million BTU when Trump left office. By August 2022 gas was $8.81 per million BTU that cost was passed along and now it $2.98 federally regulated power companies HAVE to pass that decrease cost along to the customer. The Texas grid is not federally regulated so we depend on the free market to dictate the price. And Texas electric costs are 10% lower than the national average.

BTW You are a moron

So at night does the sun shine on your power company?

Umm the federal government regulates those companies profit rates.

No. It doesn't.

You are an idiot that doesn't know anything about reality. States may regulate utilities and restrict profits. The Federal government only regulates transmission from one state to another. The Federal government doesn't restrict the profits of any electric utility that provides power in a US state.

You are free to say enough RIGHT NOW today simply by choosing not to purchase electricity. Its not like its a law that says you have to buy it. Their not holding a gun to your head and MAKING you buy it are they? Its very easy,...simply light your home with candles thats all.

You don't get to dictate what profit a private company makes, fascist.
