Obama Pledges Draconian Cuts in Social Programs!

Obama's proposed budget savings will need congressional backing and would exclude Defense, Veterans Affairs, Homeland Security and spending on international affairs, the officials said.

Yup. Just what I said. So he is proposing a freeze on about 15% of the budget, and that portion already includes the deficit spending from his last budget. Thanyewverymuch, Tufnel...

And does anybody remember the debates where the O'Bamster mocked the idea talking about hatchets and scalpels?

It's begging to look alot like McBama... Eeeevvverywhere we go.... (sung to tune of "It's beginning to look alot like Christmas...)

I just wonder when he'll start developing his old man whistle and wander the floor randomly during debates.

Everyone already knew that it was non-defense related spending. My issue with your post (as indicated by the portion that I put in bold) was your assertion that the freeze will be at stimulus-inflated levels. Your assertion is incorrect.

Hey, I am pleased with this! I hope he is serious and this isn't another one of his LIES, like not raising taxes on those making less than 200k. I'm just wondering why you pinheads aren't moaning and writhing in the streets because of all the suffering which will now be realized because of this. It was the end of the civilized world when Newt and Republicans wanted to do it back in 1994, and it was dismissed by Obama when McCain suggested it during the past campaign... what changed with Democrats? Have you now seen the light on out of control government spending? If this is what Massachusetts caused, I am pleased! It's taken us years to get you people to understand this!

Hmm, maybe you should read what Nigel stated on the subject, then you'd have an inkling as to why your ranting is just presumptive and somewhat bassackwards. :)

I'll wait to see what is stated first.

It was a stupid gimmick when it was proposed by McCain and its a stupid gimmick now, regardless of whether it is the same as McCain;s proposal or not.

What? First "I don't think" is surmising... You then highlight easily checked numbers and say I "surmise"... on what? The level it is frozen? I'm guessing because that is the only portion that isn't easily checked.

The current level has his stimulus spending. Pretending that it magically disappears because it is "frozen" at current levels is plain partisan pretense.

Stimulus spending is going to fade out. He isn't freezing current stimulus spending forever. That would be absurd, because it would mean a permanent increase in federal spending above levels he had already planned. I'm pretty sure he means non-stimulus spending.

Good answer even though its an obvious lie.

:palm: Stop being a p***y, will ya? I can't help it if I'm not acting the partisan fool like you everytime Obama farts. Why don't you take things up with Nigel...he seems interested in trying to educate stubborn neocons on this subject by separating fact from fiction.

Counting Social Security and Medicare as part of the "budget" is intellectually dishonest. He is freezing half of all actual spending.

But you're a Yellow Dog and therefore accept every drop your messiah spurts.

It's a stupid please nobody policy. What it really amounts to is a general cut to all programs. As they get more people signing up for them due to population growth, and their dollars mean less because of inflation, these programs will have just as much money to provide for the additional load.

Jeezus, it's like dealing with a Freedumb clone! :palm:
Prattle on, sunshine. See you AFTER the SOTU address.

Social Security and Medicare are not discretionary spending. Stop talking. You have no idea what you are talking about.

It isn't. Of over 700 billion only a portion has been spent, it is all included in discretionary spending, and it will be "frozen" right in there with the rest. Did you see that his proposed freezing saves us a massive 250 Billion by 2020? Why so little?... If that portion of stimulus isn't going to be spent, as you seem to be pretending now, it would save that much in one year. (And would still be in deficit.)

You are just making stuff up that you want to believe now rather than dealing with the reality of the proposed numbers.

Now if he is actually proposing cutting off stimulus spending entirely for three years.... well, I'm up for that.

Again you demonstrate that you do not know what discretionary spending is.

I'm not going to bother arguing the point with you. You're wrong but I don;t really give a shit. It's a stupid policy altogether.

Damo, Obama's predicted budget had deficits going down to around 500 billion a year in 2011 or 2012. Basically Bush levels. If he froze things at stimulus inflated levels, he would be keeping a 1.5 trillion deficit for three years starting now. That would lead to a massive increase in the deficit. Not a 250 billion decrease.
