Four days after a judge ordered former President Donald Trump to pay $354 million in his civil fraud case, New York Attorney General Letitia James told ABC News that she is prepared to seize the former president's assets if he is unable to find the cash to cover the fine.:good4u:

"If he does not have funds to pay off the judgment, then we will seek judgment enforcement mechanisms in court, and we will ask the judge to seize his assets," James said in an interview with ABC News' Aaron Katersky.

Trump was fined $354.8 million plus approximately $100 million in pre-judgment interest on Friday after Judge Arthur Engoron determined that he inflated his net worth in order get more favorable loan terms.

The former president has denied all wrongdoing and has said he will appeal.

Saying that she was "very confident" with the strength of her case on appeal, James reiterated that her office would not hesitate to seize one of Trump's buildings -- listing Trump's 40 Wall Street skyscraper by name -- if Trump is unable to find the case to cover the court-ordered disgorgement.

"We are prepared to make sure that the judgment is paid to New Yorkers, and yes, I look at 40 Wall Street each and every day," James said.

James directly countered Trump's allegation that the case lacked any victims, instead describing her case as vital to ensuring financial markets treat New Yorkers fairly.

"Financial frauds are not victimless crimes. He engaged in this massive amount of fraud. It wasn't just a simple mistake, a slight oversight, the variations are wildly exaggerated, and the extent of the fraud was staggering," James said. "If average New Yorkers went into a bank and submitted false documents, the government would throw the book at them, and the same should be true for former presidents."

What would be hilarious is, she does that then the tenants leave and she's forced to fill the building up with illegals who trash it... Then the whole plummets in value with no buyers on the horizon and the state gets stuck with a proverbial white elephant...

Trump is King of the Universe

Yeah, good luck with that one

That would be hilarious because in that scenario, that means Trump is broke and cannot meet his obligations and lied under oath about having $400MM in cash.

I am A-OK with this bankrupting Trump and his assets being sold at deep discounts to market. Let him watch everything he once owned being bought by others real cheap.

That would be the real Art of the Deal, and i would buy it.

Most of the tenets are owner tenets. These are condos. The value of the condos has been suppressed, because of trump's name. If you take off trump's name, they become worth more.

This is the highest occupancy in NYC history. Residential buildings are not being abandoned, in fact quite the opposite.

The ONLY reasons occupancy rates are very high in NYC--the ONLY--is because new housing of any sort isn't getting built. There is a shortage even as people leave.

At the same time, office occupancy space is barely above 50% there.

You think that would be funny? You're seriously weird. The tenants would not just leave. The new owners would take over and they would get better treatment. Removing the Trump name makes buildings more valuable.

There is not enough new housing being built, but that would not cause a shortage if the population was declining. The reason that there is not enough housing is that job creation has outnumbered apartment creation 8 to 1. There can be multiple employees per apartment, but 8 to 1 is a crazy difference.

New York City is being revitalized again, with huge numbers of young people moving in. Younger people are more likely to allow construction, so the problem might start solving itself.

It does for the following reasons:

High cost of rent. NYC has the highest rents of any major US city. People can't afford to rent and often double up in a single apartment rather than have their own.
Urban decay. Many existing buildings have decayed to the point they are no longer habitable, and owners won't fix them due to zoning and construction costs.

The problem would be far worse if people weren't leaving.

Yes, you have to pay more to live in a more productive city. It is called supply and demand. The demand for an apartment looking out over Central Park is nearly infinite, so there must be extreme prices because of limited supply.

The drop in rent because of the pandemic has meant a whole generation of young people can move in. New York City is expanding.

Trump certainly has a lot of negatives, but I don't think he's a slum lord.

He started out as a slum lord in the 1980's. He felt renting to Blacks was beneath him, so he sold his slum properties when he went bankrupt. They were always his cash cows. His casinos and whatnot usually lost money.

Slum lord? Don't see it.

trump has only a few ways he made money. Obviously, he inherited money. He made money off branding, the less he had to do with a running a property the better. He made money off reality TV. And finally, he made money as a slum lord.
