To which Democrats presented a bill, that made very significant concessions to the right, and would have clearly improved the situation.

But cult leader wanted the border as a campaign issue. And so Republicans said no - we're good right now.

You're presenting something that is irrelevant to that question.

Conservatives can no longer claim to care about the border. Sorry - that's the way it is now.
 
Perhaps my statement in post #3 was too much.

I'd revise it: "Conservatives care more about getting Trump re-elected than they do about the border."

Wrong! You didn't read that POS bill obviously. Most of what was in it Joke could have done by executive order. For example, he doesn't need congressional approval to close the border. He could do that by executive order.

As proof, he issued an executive order closing the border at Lukeville (aka Gringo Pass) Arizona for over a month.
