march 8 2024 Cheney and her committee falsely claimed they had “no evidence” to support Trump officials’ claims the White House had communicated its desire for 10,000 National Guard troops. In fact, an early transcribed interview conducted by the committee included precisely that evidence from a key source. The interview, which Cheney attended and personally participated in, was suppressed from public release until now.

Deputy Chief of Staff Anthony Ornato’s first transcribed interview with the committee was conducted on January 28, 2022. In it, he told Cheney and her investigators that he overheard White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows push Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser to request as many National Guard troops as she needed to protect the city.

He also testified President Trump had suggested 10,000 would be needed to keep the peace at the public rallies and protests scheduled for January 6, 2021. Ornato also described White House frustration with Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller’s slow deployment of assistance on the afternoon of January 6, 2021.

Cheney hid this testimony and instead asserted in her report that President Trump “never gave any order to deploy the National Guard on January 6th or on any other day. Nor did he instruct any Federal law enforcement agency to assist.”

One more time, you can call everyone all the childish names you want, but you cannot change the facts. trump was the commander-in-chief of the DC National Guard. he had near absolute authority over them. he did not need to request them from anyone.

This suggests they played a pretend game. They would make it look like Trump favored guarding the Capitol but when the time and even after the time had come he never made the order and he was the one who could make it.

Trump calls his insurrectionists 'hostages' and says he's going to pardon them. He's admitting guilt right there.

Trump organized the insurrection and watched it on TV like it was the Superbowl. It is not serendipity that the rally was as close to the joint congress certification of the electoral votes as possible. Nor was it an accident that it was at the exact same time and date. This was the plan.
Trump could have stopped, what he started at any time. When he told them to stop, they did.
The guy who planned it is not the guy who wanted to stop it. It did not have to be.

No, you have proof that Trump instigated the incident by lying about voter fraud, calling for people to meet at the Capitol, and failing to act for three hours during the attack. He did not issue an order asking for troops.

Trying to excuse an attack and assault by saying there should have been more protection ignores the criminals and their actions.

Pelosi had nothing to do with security at the Capitol. The president must request those troops. Trump told Mitchell they would need about 10,000 troops but never took the necessary steps to order them. Meanwhile, during the attack Pelosi and McConnell were in a room on the phone with the general trying to get protection.
