Former Senator and VP candidate Joe Lieberman has died at the age of 82 as the result of complications from a fall.

RIP Joe.
 
I could be misremembering and just saying this out of respect for someone who just passed but I remember him as kind of an old school Senator who had an element of statesman to him and was willing to work with people in both parties.

To the bolded: That is an understatement. Joe was a Democrat until he sided with the Neocons. He had to change his party to Independant after the Iraq War started just to get elected. He was John McCain's first choice for VP but McCain was persuaded to go with Palin.

Former US Senator Joseph Lieberman, the first observant Jewish lawmaker to serve in the Congress, has passed away at the age of 82.

Lieberman was an Orthodox Jew who observed the Shabbat, was a staunch supporter of Israel and had a close relationship with the Lubavitcher Rebbe and Chabad.

I hate to speak badly of the departed, but he did a lot of political harm to the party he called home for most of his career. He was one of the speakers who spoke out against Obama in 2008 at the RNC. Quite a turnaround from being Gore's running mate in 2000. It was all about the Iraq War.

Lieberman was a conservative.

We spoke this way when he was alive. Dying doesn't cleanse him, but if this is a tribute thread we can either not take part, or tell the truth.
 
Maybe it’s human nature but it’s so predictable; when a person from the other party is deemed a ‘maverick’ who bucks their party leadership from time to time we like them, but when it’s someone from our own party then not so much.

I wonder exactly what the complication was? Maybe a bad bruise caused a clot that migrated to his brain/heart?
