To those who want to go to the moon!

How would you pay for moon missions? Maybe cuts in social programs?! Is it a priority to go to the moon? With millions unemployed and under employed, who the f*ck wants to go to the moon? Let my guess, it's one of those feel good things?! Better put money into our educational systems or you won't be going anywhere, let alone the moon!

The moon isn't going anywhere, but this country has been going down the toilet for awhile now, let take care of America and it's people first!

I'm actually kind of bummed out about this, and I know that's a little hypocritical because it's not exactly a fiscal conservative thing.

But on the plus side, we're starting to reach the breaking point of partial privatization for sub-orbital, and some day potentially orbital space tourism.

And I would hope that having humans stationed on the moon long term would expand that marketplace potential as well, as we learn more about the natural resources available on the surface and possibilities of innovations in technology and new services that are possible to be developed in micro-gravity and lunar gravity.

Oh man, all those sci-fi stories could come true.....private companies laying claim to asteriods, planets. Wild.

Jesus you're obnoxious and annoying.

We can multi-task. We have poor people. This does not mean we cannot fund science. Science and NASA are actually trivial parts of the budget. This was a dumb policy choice and it only solidifies my choice to vote for anyone but Obama in 2012.

NASA has spent $9 billion so far on Constellation.
Penny wise, pound foolish. This is a mistake on par with the cancellation of the supercollider. Imagine how many decades those foolish bean counters in congress set humanity back to score a few political points with ignorant fools like Signal. It's astounding. And for what? To shave 0.000001% off the deficit? Astounding. Simply astounding ignorance.

I agree with Obama. Spending on the space program in bad times is a waste. Granted, his hero JFK, is spinning in his grave, but that's JFK (full of bad ideas), and this is a good idea.

The technological advances that NASA has brought about far outweigh the costs in tax dollars.

The budget for NASA is miniscule in comparison to what we spend in other areas.

You want jobs? How about an industry that creates good jobs instead of minimum wage nonsense?

As long as it's not me that's gotta go there. Personally, I prefer the scenery on Boracay.

Yes, this is true, but you'll need to convince 41 senators to steeply raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans to pay for the project. Not gonna happen. BTW, during the years of the moon program NASA was one of our largest spending programs.

No one is suggesting that NASA should be eliminated (well, except for Ron Paul and maybe a few others), just that this particular program should be scrapped. In fact, Obama's proposed budget contemplates an incresae of $6 billion to NASA over the next five years.

Right, with an aim towards contracting out the actual space flight. Basically NASA becomes the place to train astronauts, but the spacecraft and stations will be created by private companies with contracts.
