People choose to be child molesters too, and they shouldn't be allowed to live, never mind serve in the military.
Completely different topic.
People choose to be child molesters too, and they shouldn't be allowed to live, never mind serve in the military.
Most choose, some are born defective. Either way...
Let me know when they start discussing rewriting the UCMJ....
During the SOTU, the president said: "This year, I will work with Congress and our military to finally repeal the law that denies gay Americans the right to serve the country they love because of who they are."
The Joint Chiefs sat there stone-faced.
Can somebody tell me why this is even an issue? Specifics, not sound bites about morale and cohesiveness.
Neither should be illegal.Sex in the barracks should be illegal, being gay should not.

Neither should be illegal.
The policy was enacted by legislation and it can be altered/repealed in the same way.
You are cool with people having sex in open barracks?
Maybe I am wrong with what barracks are, but to me they are a group living enviroment with open air sleeping quarters.

The point remains.....
homos ARE NOT DENIED the right to serve the country they love because of who they are, as Obama claimed.
They are denied the freedom to 'flaunt' their sexuality in a public way while in the service of their country....
they are denied the freedom to act in a way "unbecoming a member of US Armed Services"......the same as any soldier, sailor, etc.....
The Joint Chiefs always sit stone faced, no matter what they think about an issue.
If you had the balls to serve, you'd know...
The "point" is inane and unthinking. Apparently you believe that any openly-gay person in the military is going to be loud, proud and in your face about their sexuality. You've stated that because they're gay they might act in a way "unbecoming a member, etc." Why would that apply to gays only?
Notice in my post....."the same as any soldier, sailor, etc....." ??
Do I have to explain what that means ?
If recruits are taught a certain code of behaviour during their training, it doesn't follow that only gays would flout the code.
and no one said anything different...
FYI, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen has spoken out that DADT should be repealed. A big high-five to him for acknowledging that discrimination against gays is 100% wrong.
"No matter how I look at the issue," Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Adm. Mike Mullen said, "I cannot escape being troubled by the fact that we have in place a policy which forces young men and women to lie about who they are in order to defend their fellow citizens."
Yes, so long as they are careful to keep it private. And there are different types of barracks, open barracks where everybody sleeps in the same open room, and barracks that are much like apartment buildings where you and one or two others share a room, sometimes with a bathroom per room other times a more public restroom and shower situation. Boot camp was open barracks, after that I never was in open barracks.
