What about the '09 meltdown?

The market has recovered by half, in a year's time. Investment in the market is still far & away the best ROI over the course of many years.

Are you really going to argue that the "safe" SS return is better, over any 2-3-4 decade period?

Privatization DOES NOT EQUAL putting all the money into the stock market.

Privatization means taking the money out of the control of the government and putting it into the hands of the individual. No one is suggesting allowing people to invest in whatever they want. Create a treasury bond index and an S&P 500 replica index. Allow people to invest in those. Put restrictions on them for all I care.... 50% mandatory in treasuries or whatever. But get the money out of the hands of the government. That way I know everything I have put in for the past 24 years will still be there when I retire.

try reading the thread.... many have already given their ideas. As for me...

1) Switch the tax code to my flat tax with standard deduction model. This eliminates the need for the bulk of the IRS and you will see an increase in revenues.

2) Cut military spending by a third.

3) Cut department of education budget.... specifically the waste on the administration side.

4) Take the $500 billion in waste Obama found in Medicare/Medicaid and get rid of it

5) Privatize SS.... and get the money out of the hands of the crooks in DC and the crooks at JP Morgan.

6) Cut the salaries of the members of Congress by 10% each year they increase our nations debt in a fiscal year. Increase their pay by 25% each year they decrease the national debt in a year.

7) Cut subsidies to industries that are profitable... oil especially, but also look at farming.... if we are paying someone not to farm... that shit stops now.

8) Cut the waste out of government pension plans... either you work until you are 62-65 like the private sector or you don't get full pensions.

9) Further decrease medicare/medicaid expenditures by getting the actual COSTS under control within health care.

Interesting thread....these posts certainly make it perfectly clear why White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel called liberal activists "f---ing retarded." I was thinking the very same thing....
