Obama admits health care overhaul may die on Hill

"I think it's very important for us to have a methodical, open process over the next several weeks, and then let's go ahead and make a decision," Obama said at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser.

"And it may be that ... if Congress decides we're not going to do it, even after all the facts are laid out, all the options are clear, then the American people can make a judgment as to whether this Congress has done the right thing for them or not," the president said. "And that's how democracy works. There will be elections coming up, and they'll be able to make a determination and register their concerns."

oh now he wants it open....and notice how once again, obama shifts the blame to others....if the bill fails he doesn't want you to even consider him, he wants you to only consider congress...

obama = :crybaby:

He's nationalizing the issue, for the elections. It's a smart political move, or risky, depending on your viewpoint. To me, it's clear that he wants to make the mid-term a referendum on healthcare.

if brown's win in mass was a sign against the current h/c bill, which i believe it was, then this is not a good move for obama...it is just another don't blame me soundbite...

On the contrary - that quote, combined with other rumblings I have heard out of the admin, speaks more to the idea that they think MA was an anomoly. They're basically saying to the rest of the country, "Do you want a state that already has health coverage making this decision for you?," and trying to make it the #1 issue for Nov.

It's definitely risky; I don't think there is a chance they'll re-gain the Supermajority they need, but maybe they're hoping a stalemate kind of election will re-affirm a mandate, if healthcare is prominent enough in the campaign...

In its present state the bill is so chopped up and convoluted that it would probably be disastrous to pass it anyway. There really was little time taken to undertake a feasibility study, to examine enough of the factors and determine where the real problems are, what is the best approach to ameliorate those problems, what the country really needs and what is the best, most cost-effective plan to meed those needs. Also what pitfalls may occur and what the restrictions should be.

I know a lot of people who will be relieved that this probably won't pass after all.

The American people have made their judgment. Too bad he keeps ignoring it!

I think it's a good move to nationalize the issue. If it helps enough Dems get elected and the bill passes, great. If it doesn't then Obama will be covered in '12 as he can say he put it on the table and the Senate/Congress turned it down.

His argument can be it may not have been a perfect bill but it was the start for a change and change was blocked. HR was his platform. The worst move will be if he just lets it slide, covers it up, gives the appearance it wasn't worth fighting for.

Yet when I said that I was "an obstructionist"...

Seriously. The fools who tried to make us choke on the current bill should lose their jobs.

I know. But we can dream. It's so frustrating; nobody seems to have any expertise, nobody seems to know what the right questions are or how to get the answers they need or even how to ask the questions. There's been so much accommodation of special interests without protecting the core principles, which were erected on sand anyway ...

I'm in favor of an all-inclusive system, having firsthand experience with both the Canadian system and here. Frankly I was appalled at what I found here and that was at NIH! The comparison hasn't become more favorable as I've moved on.

Do you guys masturbate to people dying? Do you enjoy the fact that you're celebrating the death of millions, yurt? Does this bring joy to your heart, all those that you are personally killing?

It isn't Obamas fault.

FDR knew how to get shit done. You do it by being partisan. You engage in a blitzkreig. You pass your entire agenda in the first hundred days. You ignore the ignorant opposition. Those who don't care about the dying have had their voice on the issue rendered moot.

Jeffrey Dahmer? He only killed a couple of dozen, though. He must find Republicans and conservative Democrats feat impressive. Hitler and Stalin are smiling in their graves.

It's not special interests. It's bending over backwards to listen to conservatives. Conservatives deserve to be ignored - they offer nothing to any debate. They are driveling fools whos only concern is tax cuts for the rich and a high body count.
