Gibbs Scrawls Grocery List on Hand in Jab at Palin

Nah, if you watch the whole speech she refers to her hand during the speech several times. She went with prepared notes but like many speakers went into areas uncovered by the notes. Actually watch the video of the whole speech, you will see what I am talking about.

During the Q&A, you see her look at her hand only once and immediately work on removing the words from her hand. The words were written for the speech and not the Q&A just based on when she actually referred to them and how often.

Let's back up a minute.

First, you said that she pulled off "a complete speech with simple one-word reminder notes." Well, you know and I know that what you said is false. She had a prepared speech and she read from her prepared speech as she delivered it. She didn't pull off "a complete speech with simple one-word reminders."

Once you acknowledge your claim was total bullshit we can address the other stuff.

Yeah, I did. However you do not know what was written on the paper. You assume that it was a full speech. I do not believe it was.

We can "address the other stuff" now if you want, because the reality of it is, she referred to her hand during the speech and not the q&a...

Yeah, I did. However you do not know what was written on the paper. You assume that it was a full speech. I do not believe it was.

I'm not terribly interested in what you believe. You're obviously not an honest observer when it comes to Palin.

And the claim that the hand notes were for the speech is pretty silly. She had a stack of papers on the podium while she delivered the speech that she quite obviously read from throughout the speech. If she wanted to jot down some additional notes why wouldn't she just write on the papers that would be in front of her face? Why write on her hand? It makes no sense.

I don't know, but you can watch her refer to her hand while giving the speech. It wasn't hidden, she turns her hand and looks at it. Unlike the interview where they show her rubbing that hand (apparently to remove the marks) on her leg after only glancing at it.

Now she did stand to the side of the lectern and appeal to her "hand" notes again at the end... I have no idea what she was doing with the hand notes, but it wasn't for the interview as the video supposedly shows.

And yes, I actually watch gifted speakers for just such things (every speech by Obama, Reagan, and Palin for instance) to gather pointers to improve my skills in that area. I often speak publicly and know what it entails and how difficult it is.

Of course, what I "learned" from this is that notes on your hand are a distraction.

Total non-sequitur here - have you ever done Toastmasters?

What did you think? My public speaking skills are pretty horrid, & I'm considering....
They will definitely help you improve your public speaking skills. They taught me that you don't show up with the text of a speech written down because you will find yourself trapped into reading it, looking at the audience rarely (hence why I don't believe that she had more than notes on the lectern). Things like that. Scripted speeches off paper scripts are obvious, not so much if you have a 'prompter.

OK. I watched the Q & A and the things on her hand are her responses to the question regarding what are the top three things that ought to be done once conservatives take back the House and Senate. It's undeniable.

Start watching at about the 3:20 mark. Then watch at about 4:04 mark when she looks at her hand and listen to her responses.

First, she says we have to reign in spending and, in fact, gets her own fucking hand note wrong. She was supposed to say tax cuts but she said the thing she crossed out on her hand instead "budget cuts." Second, she says "jumpstart these energy projects." Third, she says "allow America's spirit to rise again."

As a reminder, her hand notes were "Tax cuts" (with budget crossed out) "Energy" and "Lift American spirit"

Sarah Palin is a joke.

Yes. The video shows her looking at her hand once, and actually getting distracted from it. Like I said. That same moment is captured in another thread. It also shows her not looking at it again like that and attempting to rub off the notes on her nylons... (again an unnecessary distraction from the message.)

It also doesn't show the speech so that we do not see how she actually looked directly at her hand (not even hiding it) during the speech.

Either way, the reality is crib notes like this are not unwarranted, can actually be a distraction and really didn't help her out much. I would avoid writing on my hand in the future if I were her. (Or I'd make a point of doing it as a jab at those who find it the mostest importantest thing ever...)

Damo:

The things written on her hand were her responses to a particular question: what are the top three things that have to be done when the conservatives take back the House and Senate. You cannot credibly claim otherwise.

The fact that she needs to write her response to such a question on her fucking hand (and she still gets it wrong) shows how much of an empty suit she is. She can't remember three policies she would like to see enacted.

lmao....how is anything he said a non-sequitur, especially when your next comment is about toastmasters?

Um - I was saying my comment about Toastmasters was a non-sequitur, CBO guy.

Any other dumb comments you'd like to make today, or CBO links you'd like to post?

:cof1:

This whole conversation is so damn petty. Sheeesh!!

You don't think she wanted to say budget cuts? That's what's important to me, as a conservative. Its what I would have said.

This would have been far funnier if he had just "referred" to his hand and allowed others to pick up what was written there. Instead it was like watching a kid "explain" a knock-knock joke.

Plus if you watch the whole speech she can clearly be seen GLANCING AT HER NOTES ON THE PODIUM.
