Yeah, because nobody could ever want to offer an amendment during discussion or anything like that. There couldn't possibly be a reason to continue a discussion... :rolleyes:


Well, for starters, invoking cloture neither ends debate nor prevents amendments from being considered. Instead, it limits debate to 30 additional hours and prevents new amendments from being offered. If they wanted to discuss things further or to have votes on their amendments (assuming they had any) there is no reason for them not to vote to invoke cloture.

Other than not wanting to limit the discussion time maybe to give them the ability to continue to sell their amendments. But you just go on heaping on the spin because that's what you're good at.
