Wonderful Economy: More Restaurants Going Into Bankruptcy

Rising Costs, Shrinking Consumer Spending and Changing Customer Habits Push More Restaurants Into Bankruptcy

by Laura Harris, Natural News October 26, 2024

At least 10 major restaurant chains have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this year due to rising costs, shrinking consumer spending and the disappearance of pandemic-era financial support.

In August alone, three notable restaurant chains sought bankruptcy protections. Mediterranean fast-casual chain Roti filed on Aug. 23, citing challenges from high operating costs and decreasing foot traffic in downtown areas. Earlier that month, Buca di Beppo and World of Beer also turned to Chapter 11 to restructure their businesses amid rising labor costs and inflationary pressures.

Bankruptcies nearly double in 2024 due to broader economic challenges

The Biden/Harris Economy Stinks!

The "fix" I've heard from Trump is that he will slam tariffs on everything coming into the US which will essentially make pretty much EVERYTHING unaffordable to the rank and file. I'm having trouble getting my head around how that is an improvement over what you posted here.

If I recall, even when asked about the rising price of child care in a recent townhall, Trump somehow related it back to the tariffs and the money he thinks that will generate for the economy.

Again, for a top-tier businessman like Trump I'm surprised that he doesn't know that tariffs are passed on to the consumer. They are NEVER paid out of the CEO bonus pool. They are NEVER paid out of the corporate profit.

Never.

So if you think the H/B economy sucks, you will be unpleasantly surprised when the cost of literally everything goes up under Trump.

Again what do you think is going to happen to grocery prices and pretty much everything else after Trump adds on 20% on some products and up to 100% on things from China?

Apparently most of the Trump supporters (and even Trump himself) seems to believe that corporations will foot the bill for the added cost due to tariffs. That's a very novel view of how business operates.

But then not all people have the "joy" of working in a corporation and seeing how the sausage is made.

They think the exporting country doesn't raise the price of their goods to cover the tariff and that makes the consumer pay it indirectly .
And yes it helps US industry some what they may sell more and can raise their price be just lower then what the imported product is and make bigger profits, and the Consumer IS the one who pay the increase.

Restaurants are a tough business. The majority fail. The National Restaurant Assn. says 20 percent succeed. 80 percent fail within 5 years.

If tariffs are used judiciously, they can correct trade imbalances and also drive industry back to the USA.
Trump has used tariffs and the threat of tariffs to bargain for better trade deals for the USA.

You are using your line of reasoning as a scare tactic.

Listen, unless your an restaurant owner, what the fuck does Biden have to do with these places closing? I don't know about you, but the cost of everything has increased and eating out is a luxury for families. If you think Trump will change things, keep dreaming you moronic simp!!

Revolutions that set out to destroy the middle class will take a sludge hammer to the restaurant industry....nobody has to go to restaurants...people will spend their money on more important things.

The middle class has been barron for decades...to much cheap labor from immigrants pretty much destroyed the middle class and to many Trump jobs went over seas.

It's hard to watch the weight when one eats out a lot. Cooking at home is healthier but time consuming.
Cooking at home CAN be healthier. There are lots of home cookers obese and unhal

Gayboy is lying again. Trump used tariffs clumsily and still does not understand them. Listen to his speeches and wonder who he has talked to with such an insane idea.
