Happy Thanksgiving

I just can’t participate in Jarod’s thread. So I’m making my own and if the powers deem they need to be merged then so be it.

I don’t know what kind of history some of you were taught in the public schools or college, but we were shown two sides of the Thanksgiving story. We learned about the Wampanoag people and the Pilgrims, celebrating together. We were told how the Natives helped keep the Pilgrims from starving prior to that event. Yes, we eventually were taught about the atrocities some of the Europeans committed against the Natives in the history of our nation, but that wasn’t what Thanksgiving was about. We were taught that eventually there was a campaign to make Thanksgiving an American holiday and that Lincoln finally proclaimed it as such…to be celebrated in November. Finally, in an economic move, FDR declared it to be celebrated on the 4th Thursday in November.

Let me say again, we weren’t spared the history of the plight of the Natives. We weren’t sheltered from the Andrew Jackson’s or the Wounded Knee’s. But our history is what it is. You can’t go back and re-write it. Natives were treated badly and killed in the making of this country. But Natives can and do quite well nowadays playing in the system the white man has created. That is what you do. Our tribe makes millions every year and helps multiple Choctaw entrepreneurs get businesses started. Many are very successful. It is the culture in which we live. At the same time, my tribe continues to celebrate Thanksgiving while holding to our own traditional cultural celebrations at other times throughout the year.

For me, the statements and efforts that want to highlight the negative and make it seem that somehow the white man isn’t deserving of what he has in this country (obviously you haven’t seen the poor white people I deal with on a daily basis) are getting quite old. If true history is taught in my ruby red state (still not a blue county) then I’m sure it’s getting taught elsewhere, just maybe not with the self-loathing that some seem to want.

So I just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here. I’ve never see any of you but have known some of you nearly 30 years. Eat some turkey (or chicken, fish or ham) and some pie. Watch some football. And find those things to be thankful for, like maybe the fact that you’re not a Dallas Cowboys fan (as I am)…😉

I Thessalonians 5:18 — in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Happy is over.
Being thankful is over.
Civilization itself is probably over.
America committed suicide early this month.

Todays dinner is being catered,
at significant expense,
because the Gestapo still wants to observe the holiday with the kids and the dog
but I don't feel like doing jack shit.

And I'm not.

Appreciate this and well said LR (especially interesting given your family background).

I suppose today what you wrote is considered non woke. But to me it’s just real.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. (And may you join with Cowboys loving wife in suffering. Haha.). 😆

Yes the Indians welcomed the pilgrim immigrants with open arms and helped them survive, and that is the spirit we celebrate today.

I made no comments about what we were taught or not taught!

Come on NN, go out some place and hit on a beautiful lady just to show the world you still got it and bring some joy back in your life!

LR, realized it’s too late to edit this but meant to say MY Cowboys loving wife. (and her whole family)

You can take solace in the fact that the White Lib Media told you the same "end of the world" LIES in 2016.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Old Man. And don't throw a temper tantrum, it might upset your dog. Buck up, you son of a bitch. Keep on fighting.

Excellent post LR. In no way am I an apologist for the policies of genocide that were prosecuted against Native Americans. I have studied a lot of the Indian Wars of the late 18th century. Particularly those that occurred in the Northwest Territories before and after the Revolutionary War. In particular I’ve perused a great deal in the Lyman Copeland Draper archive at the University of Wisconsin (online). It’s an invaluable resource of information on the pioneer history of the Transappalachian region with volumes of primary resources of pioneer history, particularly of the Northwest territory Indian wars.

You can find a lot of information on such important historical persons as Daniel Boone, Simon Kenton, Simon Girty, Gen. George Rogers Clark, General Mad Anthony Wayne, Michikiniqua, Tecumseh, Wayapiersinwah, Buckangahela, etc,.

Anyway I know better than to be naive about the American war against Native Americans. For almost 200 years Native Americans kept European settlers pinned east of the Appalachian Mountains by stint of being some of the greatest Woodland Guerrilla fighters in human history.

That history of their warfare is filled with a vast amount of the horrific brutality in which the eastern tribes fought. It was considered by many Native warriors of the eastern tribes that the best part of winning a battle was torturing and executing the losing sides captives, innocent men, women and children of all ages in ways that were obscenely brutal and merciless. In return the frontier settlers who were largely illiterate and only a half step more civilized became just as barbaric but honest objectivity requires me to conclude, based on primary resources, that these sort of barbaric atrocities were committed with significantly more frequency by Native Americans. So I don’t hold any anachronistic views on this fascinating era of American history. I understand why such virulent hatred arose between Native Americans and American Settlers.

The reason I find this era so fascinating is that it was at this time and place that the American character, as we know it now began to form.

Anyways thanks for you Thanksgiving blessing and many more in return.

I do though would love to have a lengthy conversation with someone like yourself of Native American descent on this era of history from a Native American perspective.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours LR.

Assuming you didn’t just copy that off ChatGPT (LOL), really enjoyed reading that

The screaming, lying, election-distraught, Lefties are not worth destroying our normal Thanks Giving Holiday.

Enjoy your time with family and friends, and ignore politics for a few hours.

Tomorrow will be soon enough to "stick a maggot hole in their bellies".

One of the most negative Thanksgiving sentiments I've ever seen.

Why Thank You!

Only seen as a negative, if you're an insufferable Leftie!

The rest of U.S. see it as, relax today, and tomorrow is gunna be fun!

The Lefties divided the nation, and now your upset that we hate you?!

What did you expect?

*chuckle...

I'm not a lefty, or insufferable. I don't hate anyone, personally.
