Trumps injury was very minor, the bullet just barely hit his ear....that part of the ear just happens to bleed well as the head generally does.
 
Also it is somewhat likely that Trump is on some kind of a blood thinner or aspirin, causing the bleeding to be impressive. .
 
Trump said that he heard the bullet and thought that he felt something, but it was the bleeding that caused him to know that he was hit...

This was a very minor wound.
 
The claim that the bandage was massively oversized to make an impression had the ring of Trump....but I never followed up on that.
