Obama says Beck, Limbaugh fuel 'troublesome' political climate

So the President feels the need to fill that gap? He's the President, he should at least act like he's above that minutiae.

The left-wing doesn't need a host they have ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, et al.

Can you name the last President who didn't rail whatever media was aligned against them?

You can take you time, as well - like Yurt.

That's a completely disingenuous point, as well. If you think MSNBC even comes close to fueling the divisiveness that defines the current political climate as say, Limbaugh, you're completely insane.

It doesn't even do "half", since that's a measurement you seem to relate to.
You have got to be joking. It's almost like you ignored all the other networks listed to take aim at the "easiest" target.

Each week even MSNBC alone has more viewers than Rush has listeners, even that target was a weak attempt at ignoring reality, let alone the rest of the list. Shoot, all you have to do is remember back fondly to See B.S. News "reporting" on the fake memos to realize whose side they are on...

The left has effective media. Pretending that Rush Limbaugh is more effective than the entire left media is flat disingenuous, and imagining that the 80% of the MSM "reporters" who admit to being democrats do not allow their bias to effect them and their "reporting" is just pretense. Stop being so deliberately inane.

No matter how many listeners he has 3 hours of radio will never tip the scales against the near monopoly on media. Not even the one 24/7 channel that is more right than left can get close to tipping these larder scales....

Now go and burn that witch elsewhere... we don't allow that here.

Who has had more influence on the tone of political discourse over the past decade: Chris Matthews, or Rush Limbaugh?

Take your time. Just give me a name.

once again, being dishonest....it isn't about who has the biggest influence, its about ending ALL vitriol talk...obama didn't just say ONLY those with the biggest audience, he said ALL should end it, yet he only mentions two big meany republicans...you're as big a baby he is onceler

you're just being a hack and creating a strawman argument because you have no rational defense for you comments.

and tbo...i don't know who has more influence, matthews is on television, rush is on AM radio....matthews HOSTED presidential debates, makes comments at democratic events watched by MILLIONS of people...

do you really want to continue down this road of stupid hackery onceler?

I knew Yurt couldn't just give a name, but it's always good to hear his meaningless repetition of "hack" or one of its derivative forms...

i gave you my best and honest answer and i knew you would be too cowardly to actually address what i said and then prance around claiming victory

hack

What does Michael Moore "host"? I don't even know...does whatever it is get ratings of any kind?

Hackie, hack, hackolopolous, hacksaurus...

You've got too much of a chip on your shoulder. You're hardly one to be pointing fingers & proclaiming "best answers"...

It's hackasaurus rex. And while it's true he doesn't 'host' anything, neither Limbaugh, nor Beck have every made an award winning film. Or any film that I'm aware of.

From the way I read it, Obama is talking about the tone & discourse. Farenheit 9/11 was made ages ago. "Sicko" was not a partisan film, if you saw it.

As I've said, I have heard Senators quote Limbaugh, without realizing it. To suggest that a guy like Moore, in the year 2010, has even close to the effect on the political climate as a guy like Limbaugh is just odd.

I think the President using the bully pulpit to attempt to shut down speech (and yes, attempting to say that "they" are bad is attempting exactly that) he doesn't like adds to the toxic political environment, and gives them reason to keep going down that same path.

The Presidency should be above this, not wallow in it.

Yeah, except no. He's the equal of either of the two mentioned, except he makes massive film projects that are watched by people who are normally not politically active or motivated, where as people who watch Beck or listen to Limbaugh are more than likely already somewhat involved. Thus one could state that Moore has a greater effect since his is the only political exposure that part of his demographic will likely experience.

What precedent are you basing this one?

What President in your lifetime has not railed against media he finds destructive to his goals, whether it's the "liberal media" or Limbaugh?

Many would call a President weak for letting distortions & hate speech slide by without comment; think back to how people criticized Kerry for letting the swiftvets go unfettered for a month without addressing their accusations...

you would have thought obama learned the last time in wallowed in it....rush's rating went way up

obama simply is too petty, to thin skinned and really, the whiner in chief

in the aspect of handling criticism, bush is head and shoulders above obama

Are you kidding? Bush almost never spoke about the media itself. Even when Rather was "reporting" on made up memos almost nothing was said from the WH about it. Bush ineptly tried to sound "above" it by saying he never "read newspapers". Of course he likely didn't, he was busy getting more direct information from the CIA and others and hearing about articles rather than researching them...

This guy seems to whine about Limbaugh every chance he gets, if not him somebody on his staff is out there saying something vitriolic about him or his listeners, even attempting to get kool-ade drinkers to pretend he "leads" the party. Shoot, if Obama and media matters weren't constantly whining about Limbaugh, almost nobody on this site except Jarod would ever hear what the man said!

And lastly, there is a HUGE difference between a candidate and a President, it is time he started acting like a President. Maybe even how he said he would act.

Your schtick is pretty played, Yurt. You don't offer serious debate on this board, and from what I've seen, everyone kind of knows that at this point.

You're just looking to poke the hive, as meme used to say. You don't care about honest discussion.

Bush was better about getting his lackeys to rail the media, but rail the media they did. Don't be naive.

As for Limbaugh, you have consistently downplayed his influence, which is weird. He is arguably the most influential person in American politics over the last 20 years.
