Here we go again with another new target of the left (they sure love attacking anything iconic of America), lefties want Ronald McDonald gone because he advocates fatty food that costs government health social welfare programs more:

"Corporate Accountability International, which has waged campaigns against bottled water companies and tobacco companies, said it plans to present the results of a survey Wednesday showing that most Americans agree.

The group said the report features more than 200 photographs of "Ronald sitings" at schools and other child-focused events and aims to stop McDonald's from gearing its advertising toward children in light of what they called a "fast-food-industry childhood obesity crisis."

Complete and utter bullshit. I have 5 kids between my wife and I. Our children get a happy meal only as a special meal every great once in a while. Why isn't the parents responsibility to insure that their kids don't eat too much crap? Ronald Fucking McDonald does not make you pull into the drive through and buy that shit. Are we all just powerless against advertising?

I had a discussion with a Greenpeace guy at an Albertsons in LA last week and he railed against McDonalds along with other evil corporations. He was in his early 20's, dirty as hell and had the worst teeth I've seen in a long time. A fucking loser, like Topspin.

I grab something from there about twice/ week. A grilled chicken wrap and a diet coke is 270 calories.

I am so tired of people wanting some sort of government intervention in things the government has business in. Cigarettes and cigars, fast food, television shows, music etc. If you don't like McDonald's don't shop there. If you don't like certain music, don't buy the CD or listen to the radio, turn the television off or change the channel, don't smoke. Plain and simple.

And if you went there to get two quarter pounders and fries and large shake that would be your business. Ronald doesn't make you do anything.

I am torn.... because if it is the parents responsibility as to what the child (and they themselves) eat... then it should also be up to the parent to pay for appropriate health care costs depending on factors such as obesity. If we are going to provide insurance on the 'group' mentality with no need for qualifications, then sorry... but if you refuse to do so, then I am going to stop you from eating like shit and not exercising. You should not have one without the other. Otherwise there are no consequences for your actions.

As you stated, those who do it upon occasion and don't live on that shit... not really a big deal. But when we look at the obesity rates in the US, obviously far too many people are not being responsible and those of us that eat well and exercise are paying for them through higher health care costs.

Obviously those with incurable diseases such as cancer/aids etc... should have access to health insurance. But for those that are simply obese... they should pay more than their healthier peers.

I'm glad that they don't allow smoking in restaurants and bars anymore. I have a right to breathe clean air, not fucking exhaust from a smoldering weed in your pie hole.

That said, all fast food locations (and other restaurants) should have calories/fat etc... listed for every item on their menu.

This brings up some good points. Now that we have socialized health care we should be able to wire the jaws of fat shits shut, ban tobacco and queers.

1. This is actually just advocacy. It's really not a proble, and many of the things they say are true.

2. Really, McDonald's isn't as terrible as what most people say. You just have to keep your portion sizes down (the problem is that most of the standard combos are way above 600-800 calories, so you have to check that).

quarterpounder w/cheese, medium fries, medium coke.... almost 1100 calories....

one friggin 'meal'

You add a shake or supersize that crap and you have a bunch of fat fuckers running around.

Chocolate Triple Thick® Shake (32 fl oz cup) 1160 calories 12 carbohydrate, 6 fat

WTF.... who the fuck needs 32 ounces of shake?

McDonald's has actually been pretty good about offering a wide-ranging menu, with a lot of 'healthier' alternatives.

Obesity is a huge, huge problem right now; people might not realize it, but we're all paying for it, one way or another. Still, I don't agree with the gov't getting involved in this. I wish parents in general would do a better job as far as that goes.

well then.... I stand corrected on that point. I don't eat at those places.... I was not aware they were doing that.
Restaurants serve food that tastes good so you'll go back again or recommend to a friend. It doesn't matter if its McD's or your local Italian place. These places were never intended to be substitutes for your own kitchen and your own judgment.

Some restaurants make the sale based on a healthier menu. That's primarily why I eat at Subway.

Wow, I would think a conservative like yourself would think that it should be up to the Restaurant/bar owner to decide if they want to allow people to smoke in their establishment. If you don't want to eat at a smoking restaurant, DON'T.

I eat at McDonald's a lot, because I don't have the meal plan at my school. I usually just skip the fries and get a diet coke, which usually results in a regular sized meal. I haven't been gaining weight.
