I wanna go on record, before a nominee is chosen.

No matter who President Obama chooses for the supreme court... It could be a John Roberts Clone... the Right will call him/her the most radical nominee ever, the most liberal of choices and likely a socialist.

I am sure the talking points have already been written, the shock and outrage has already been practiced in front of a mirror, and the fundraising mass mailings are just waiting to have a name inserted in the right spots...

Actually, I would be delighted if he chose Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears. her 1st and 4th amendment opinions are pretty tight.

Okay, so you have one possability that you would approve of... are you going to oppose the other 99.99999% of the field?

most likely. all of the others distort the 2nd amendment with their own ideology. If they can disregard one amendment, whats to stop them from disregarding others at their convenience.

This is a fairly pointless prediction seeing as how with Dems in all levels of power they will obviously try and appoint someone far left, just like they did with Sotomayor.

It may not look like it, Jarod, but the middle still exists a bit, and it's very important. Obama has some need to hedge his bets. He should put off the uber-liberal appointments until his second term.

The trouble is that Obama will never have as many Democrats in the Senate at any point in his two terms as he does now. If he wants to put a real liberal on the bench he should do it now.

Supreme Court justice nominations do not move the mushy middle much at all. They really only have traction with high information voters.

I fully expect him to select a liberal, and I won't care. If they fight against it he'll just select another one who will get the nod. Now if Kennedy was the one retiring....

1) Not a good plan... he may not have a majority in Congress in his second term... assuming he wins one. He may also not have another Supreme retire.

2) His best strategy, in my opinion, would be to nominate the candidate farthest to the left as he can. I forget which article it was that stated this, so I am going to paraphrase.... 'he really cannot lose by doing so. If the Reps filibuster, the Dems can continue the 'party of no' bullshit line they love so much.... and then Obama can shift a bit more towards the Center with his next nomination. If the Reps don't filibuster, then Obama gets a lefty to replace a lefty.

Given the short list that I have seen, I doubt the Reps will filibuster any of Obama's choices. Though they will pick them apart for a while.

I guess I could go on record and say Obama WILL nominate the most left-wing liberal socialist he can find in the knowledge that you pinheads will whine and rant and say exactly what you've put forth ...though never admitting that the republicans will be right.
