Jews, even before the 1930's were not allowed to have passports that identified them as Germans, they identified them as Jews. You see they were not considered true Germans because they were ethnically different. This was also the case in Russia. Even in the 1970's jews in Russia had passports that declared they were Jews, and did not call them Russian.

This ideology is why there was a political fight about Native Americans and Chinese being able to attain U.S. Citizenship.

Most European nations have modernized this practice after WW2, but the idea of citizenship was based on ethnicity much more so than now. Its what The Felon is trying to take us back to by ending birthright citizenship.
