What political enemies have been rounded up and put in jail?

Teflon Don

I'm back baby
Well it is almost a month since the great President Trump was inaugurated. The JPP Marxist faithful promised us that once inaugurated, Trump would immediately ban free speech, end elections and round up and imprison political opponents because you know he is a dictator and all.

I haven't seen any of that happen. Have you?

Could that mean that the JPP Marxists were <GASP> wrong?

They need to self-deport immediately, before it's too late. This is just the lull before the storm, is all, so we can't let them get complacent. They need to join their brown brothers who are self-deporting rather than remain and be enslaved by the Evul Trump Natzees n stuff.

Of course, the only people rounded up and imprisoned were moderates and conservatives, and of course police officers railroaded into prisons because some Darwin Award winning doper OD'ed on his favorite dope.

And the usual suspects are conspicuous in their absence from this accusatory thread.

They have no defense, apparently.

One could have asked the same about Hitler one month in. It was about this time that Hitler had the Reichstag Fire, and got the Enabling Act allowing him absolute power over the budget... trump did not even have to burn down a building to get the power to ignore unconstitutionally bypass Congress. The Nuremberg Laws were about two and a half years in. Kristallnacht was about five and a half years in. The industrial genocide did not start until Wannsee Conference, about nine years in.

With any luck, trump will die of old age before following Hitler's example. After all Hitler was 36 years younger than trump is.

No one said that. Stop lying.

None, as Salty Walty just confirmed.

During and after Donald Trump's political campaigns, particularly around the 2016 and 2020 elections, some individuals and groups made claims that he would take extreme authoritarian actions if elected. These claims included assertions that Trump would immediately ban free speech, end elections, and round up and imprison political opponents. Such statements were often made by political opponents, activists, or commentators who expressed fears about his rhetoric, leadership style, or policy proposals.

For example:
  • Free Speech: Critics pointed to Trump’s attacks on the media (e.g., calling them "the enemy of the people") and his threats to sue journalists as evidence he might suppress free expression. Some warned he could use executive power to curtail First Amendment rights.
  • Elections: Hyperbolic claims about "ending elections" stemmed from Trump’s comments during the 2020 election cycle, like his refusal to unequivocally commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he lost, or his later claims of election fraud. Some interpreted this as a sign he’d undermine democracy itself.
  • Imprisoning Opponents: The "lock her up" chants about Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign fueled fears that Trump might target political rivals. Similar concerns arose when he suggested investigations into figures like Joe Biden or other Democrats.
These claims were amplified on social media platforms like Twitter (now X), in opinion pieces, and by certain political figures. However, the extent to which people believed these outcomes would happen "immediately" varied—some saw them as serious predictions, while others used them as rhetorical exaggerations to mobilize opposition.

Claims about Biden exhibiting authoritarianism generally come from critics, often political opponents or conservative commentators, who argue that certain actions or policies reflect an overreach of executive power or suppression of individual freedoms. Here are some recurring themes:
  1. COVID-19 Policies and Mandates: One prominent claim centers on Biden’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Critics point to vaccine mandates for federal employees and private businesses with over 100 workers, enforced through OSHA regulations in 2021, as evidence of authoritarianism. They argue these mandates forced people to choose between their jobs and personal medical decisions, bypassing legislative approval. For example, some assert that mandating an "untested" vaccine (despite FDA approval) and firing non-compliant workers mirrored dictatorial control. The Supreme Court later struck down the private-sector mandate in 2022, though the federal employee mandate remained, fueling further debate.
  2. Censorship and Free Speech: Another claim involves accusations that the Biden administration pressured social media companies to censor content, particularly around COVID-19 "misinformation" and political dissent. The "Twitter Files," released in late 2022, revealed communications between government officials and Twitter executives about flagging posts, which critics say shows a coordinated effort to suppress free speech. They argue this violates democratic principles, likening it to authoritarian regimes that control narratives. The administration countered that it was addressing public health threats, not silencing dissent.
  3. Persecution of Political Opponents: Some allege Biden’s Justice Department targeted political rivals, notably Donald Trump, with arrests and investigations—like the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago in August 2022 over classified documents. Critics claim this weaponizes federal agencies against opposition, a hallmark of authoritarianism. Supporters argue these actions were lawful responses to criminal behavior, not politically motivated.
  4. Border and Immigration Policies: Critics have accused Biden of authoritarianism by "opening borders" against public will, ignoring legal frameworks, or unilaterally granting benefits to undocumented immigrants. They say this defies congressional authority and national sovereignty. In contrast, the administration frames its policies as humanitarian and within executive discretion, pointing to record border apprehensions as evidence of enforcement.
  5. Executive Overreach: Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan, announced in 2022, is cited as bypassing Congress and the Constitution. Critics argue that spending billions without legislative approval flouts democratic checks and balances. The Supreme Court ruled against it in 2023, though Biden later pursued alternative relief, reinforcing claims of circumventing legal limits.
