For Desh - Fannie and Freddie Regulations

Let's see here. Should we look at Frank's actions or his words. Yurt above says words. Anyone else have an opinion on the matter? How about you, Yurt:

Hmmm. Are you sure, Yurt:

Hmmmm, which Yurt should we listen to?

his actions, along with his words, stalled any reform

when he speaks in meetings, on the floor, those words have the force of action you nitwit....plus, he didn't do anything, so by ommission, his actions stalled reform and his words caused others to also stall reform

that is perhaps the most embarrassing attempt at a gotcha i have ever seen, those quotes from me do not have any bearing on this context here....pathetic nigel, really... keep apologizing and spinning, it only shows what partisan hack you are

Heal thyself first, Yurtsie. Heal thyself....

Seriously? This is the best you can do? Claiming that the fact that he sponsored a bill that passed the House shortly after the Democrats took power means "he didn't do anything."

And pray tell, how did his actions or his words "stall reform?" Even excluding the bill that Frank sponsored and that passed the House in 2007, the regulatory bill passed the House in 2005, notwithstanding anything that Frank said or did (or didn't say or didn't do since you also make the ludicrous claim that his omissions stalled reform).

You're a joke.

the only joke is your pathetic apologist attitude for frank and the dems who all said the gop was fear mongering over this, said there was nothing wrong, dodd in 2007 etc....

it truly shows you're just way to partisan....i think both parties fucked up, the repubs should have tried to press legislation earlier, but the backlash they recieved from the dems cowed them....to you, only the repubs messed up, your precious party is of course blameless

Hilarious. As I informed you earlier, a majority of Democrats in the House voted in favor of the reform bill in 2005 and in 2007 the Democrats were unanimous in their support for the reform bill.

Dodd gets plenty of blame since, after all, he and other Senators blocked reform efforts.

Um, as I said many, many posts ago:

Hey, you're right, they did take control in 2007. And Barney Frank's bill passed the House in May 2007.

And yes, you're version of events is full of revisionism. In my view, the most accurate version of events is that the House, with support from both parties, attempted to get reform done and the Senate, under the leadership of both parties, let reform die.

If you want to pretend that reality is too partisan, go right ahead, but the above is the reality of the situation.

And the suggestion that the Republicans "cowed" to the Democrats is laughable.

i just noticed how you "conveniently" didn't mention the republicans are the ones who sponsored the 2005 bill, yet you proudly trumpet that dems co-sponsored the later bills....

If that bill had become law, then the world today would be different. In 2005, 2006 and 2007, a blizzard of terrible mortgage paper fluttered out of the Fannie and Freddie clouds, burying many of our oldest and most venerable institutions. Without their checkbooks keeping the market liquid and buying up excess supply, the market would likely have not existed.

But the bill didn't become law, for a simple reason: Democrats opposed it on a party-line vote in the committee, signaling that this would be a partisan issue. Republicans, tied in knots by the tight Democratic opposition, couldn't even get the Senate to vote on the matter.

and btw....the housing bill did in fact become law, why you said it didn't is beyond me

The same reason they deny anything that doesn't make them look good. Remember Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, saying when they were questioned about it, that FM and FM were doing just fine. Videos of what they said have been posted on here several times. They lied.

Remember when bush asked FM & FM to commit billions? Guess he didn't think things were so bad.

President Calls for Expanding Opportunities to Home Ownership

Bush said "...That's why I've challenged the industry leaders all across the country to get after it for this goal, to stay focused, to make sure that we achieve a more secure America, by achieving the goal of 5.5 million new minority home owners. I call it America's home ownership challenge.

And let me talk about some of the progress which we have made to date, as an example for others to follow. First of all, government sponsored corporations that help create our mortgage system -- I introduced two of the leaders here today -- they call those people Fannie May and Freddie Mac, as well as the federal home loan banks, will increase their commitment to minority markets by more than $440 billion. (Applause.) I want to thank Leland and Franklin for that commitment. It's a commitment that conforms to their charters, as well, and also conforms to their hearts."

And the Senate? They took control of that too.
