California governor says trans athletes in female sports 'deeply unfair'​

California Governor Gavin Newsom has broken with many elected Democrats by saying he thinks it is "deeply unfair" to allow transgender women and girls to compete in female sports.

Newsom, a potential 2028 presidential contender who leads one of the most liberal states in the US and has long been a trailblazer on LGBT rights, made the comments on his new podcast.

Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot called Newsom's remarks about trans athletes "disgusting".

Pramila Jayapal, a left-wing Democrat representing a district in the north-western state of Washington, told Politico that her party should not "take the bait and give into their anti-trans people rhetoric".

But one moderate Democratic lawmaker agreed.

Seth Moulton, of Massachusetts, told Politico that Newsom was correct and polling shows it.

"More and more are willing to say what they've probably always thought - and that's a good thing," he said.

According to an opinion survey in January by the New York Times/Ipsos, almost all Republicans and nearly seven in 10 Democrats oppose allowing transgender female athletes to participate in women's sports.

He is playing to the goofballs who do not know how made up the problem is. He sees that rightys and some neutrals think it is a problem. If he is on the wrong side of this manufactured problem, he will lose possible votes. He is ambitious.

The poll says even 70 percent of Democrats agree with Newsome, but you're right it could cost him votes in a Democratic primary.

I don't know enough about transgender athletes to speak knowledgably about it.

I don't think anyone should be discriminated against in employment, housing, wages, education, etc.

I don't think making sure that 0.005% of the population is entitled to play on NCAA women's teams is a hill America's only center-left party should to choose to die on.

True it's a rare problem, but as MAGAts suggested in another thread about safety standards being too strict and favored allowing more fecal matter and arsenic in drinking water, how much is too much?

Which party is center-left? The Democrats led the charge in allowing men* in wigs to compete in women's sports simply by claiming to be transgender.

*men meaning cock and balls intact. Even if castrated and turning their outie back into an innie at age 18, the 5-8 years of male testosterone would have the same effect as a woman shooting up with anabolic steroids for the same period of time.
 
Yevgeniya Kolodko, a genetic female, was stripped of her Olympic medals for doping with....wait for it....testosterone injections AKA anabolic steroids.

Newsome read the polls and changed his position because he knows boys in girls sports is a loser. So Newsome now agrees with 70% of Democrats. Not the other way around.

I agree about transgendered athletes in sports too,
but as a former professional athlete,
I also know that
SPORTS AREN'T THAT FUCKING IMPORTANT!!!!!

Anybody who would vote for the current criminal administration over a stupid issue like this
is simply not mentally competent enough to be voting at all.

People weren't ready for gay marriages in the 1990s. Republicans had to be dragged kicking and screaming into consenting to it.

What made Obama a brilliant politician is that he was probably personally pro-marriage years before he publicly committed to it, because he had the political savvy to bide his time until most people were in a position to listen and be convinced.

Because a problem is manufactured does not mean it is not effective, There are idiots that still believe immigrants are eating dogs and cats. It was a lie, but it swayed some low-level voters to vote for the person who told the lies, Trump. Trump will stand on stage and tell lie after lie. If one or 2 take root in some part of the electorate, he wins. He keeps chipping away with lies. He lies at a level never seen before in politics. The real question is has he changed our politics into a contest of lies.

Obama opposed gay marriage multiple times before he "changed". Obama lied about his position. Trump was the first President to take office while being OK with gay marriage.
