Canada suspends some pork imports from Smithfield Foods

30 years of drinking on the job will do that.

The desperation to work in that "I was really a teacher really so I know stuff!" comments, esp. when that isn't even the topic is telling. So is the insane defense, as well as spending all of last weekend screaming about it.

Notice how Jarod just ignores the MAGATs' snarks about how he isn't really an attorney, and how you ignore the idiotic "stolen valor" nonsense?

That's all we need to know to verify who's lying and who ain't.

It's not that hard to see who is trying too hard. LOL

Nope. Don't sell them here. Plus as I told FatLame, the crab fisheries in Alaska were closed in 2022 and 2023 and into 2024. There was a low quota crab season 2024-25 but those probably haven't hit the market yet.

ETAL I have been eating crab legs purchased at the grocery for decades. I have never once seen "USA Product" on the required labels. It's been either Product of Russia or Product of Canada.
They do sell them there... I know... I got some with my daughter while I was there from a man who caught them that day...

You can also watch them catch them on TV... The show is called Deadliest Catch.

So what if they sell them in Alaska, Owl lives in the U.P. Of Michigan. I live slightly south in Northern Lower Michigan. The only way you get it in Michigan is overpriced frozen legs. I'm pretty sure they factor shipping from Alaska into the hefty price.

They sell them to the lower 48... duh...

No one catches crab here, Damo. I live in Michigan, specifically the Upper Peninsula. lol We've watched the Deadliest Catch since it first premiered. And have been to Alaska nearly a dozen times. You are right, you can get both King and snow crab super cheap there. Here Kings are $50/lb or more. We've gotten them in Alaska for under $10/lb!

At any rate, since the crab that is available here comes from Canada, I'm hoping that pricing isn't affected by tariffs.

If you look at the packages in Meijer or SuperOne, they all say "Product of Canada" on them.

lol. Rubbish. It doesn't come cheaper from Canada.

Again, snow crab caught in Alaska is not available here. No idea why, but I suspect that it has to do with the two years in a row that the Alaskan opilio (snow) crab seasons were closed, so our groceries found another market -- Canadian crab. Maybe that will change this year as they did open the season with a limited quota for 2024-25.

Next time we get groceries I'll look at the King crab and see where it comes from.

You don't think King Crab from Alaska is the more expensive option. It's the Rolls Royce of crab, man. I couldn't afford it on my budget. Imported lump crab is better priced. Maybe a splurge for snow crab.
Meijer has snow crab legs on sale this week for $8.99. They come from Canada. I'd better stock up! lol

I don't think that all crab from Alaska is King Crab.

It would depend on the tariffs they place on the same thing imported there... wouldn't it? Reciprocal tariffs tend to mean that...

I believe he's most upset over the sometimes up to 300% tariff they put on our dairy products.

I think folks would be shocked by the prices of tomatoes, but the Canadians own the greenhouses here so there would be no tariffs so we'll probably be okay.
