OH so YOU want to just walk away from these kids just because it might make a teachers job a little harder?
Most of the time now they already know a child has Autism way before they get in school and should be setting up an educational plan for them. Not walk away from them like you want to do.

Toxic here is saying exactly the same thing I heard a hundred times when my ADHD son was in school. They thought it was a made-up condition and teachers just wanted to "drug the children to make it easier on them." Even our HMO refused to treat him with anything but talk therapy. How the fuck does talk therapy help a kid with a neurochemical disorder, who cannot stay focused in a noisy, busy school or family party setting? I finally went out of the insurance system, paid cash to see a pediatric neurologist, and had him properly diagnosed. By then he was in 6th grade, had failed one grade and was held behind, and was way behind his peers, getting Ds and Fs on his work despite me helping him with his homework and giving him tests I made up myself. He was put on low dose Ritalin and within weeks was getting As and Bs.

Toxic, like most older ppl, think that ADD/ADHD and spectrum disorder are made up things as she plainly stated. Just more evidence that she was never a teacher, let alone one in special ed. Apparently only Downs children deserve extra instructional help. She'd be a perfect head for the dying DOE.

Not as it is.... So very much misappropriated money.... The states and local systems will do a much better job...
You do understand this is not returning any power or money to the States? Right?

Congress appropriates the money and the DOE's money is simply being transferred to other federal agencies that will provide the same functions, likely less efficiently.

I have huge problems with the way they're overtesting kids these days..... This is because there truly are children Who are properly diagnosed and placed in appropriate programs... And those are the children who special education teachers should be focusing on...
You finally said something I agree with.

Look at Florida's extensive testing programs and who is making money off of them.

Do you think one out of every thirty six children are autistic... Seriously... Are those ways "better" or are there just more ways created so that they can label them? (I had students in my classroom that never should have been in specialed... And this was middle school and high school so they had been mislabeled years prior to that...)
If not AUTISTIC at least on the " spectrum "
Some can be and are highly functional, get a training and be very productive adults.

Students should be getting training anyway ...we've talked about this... I do not believe that 1 out of 36 are autistic, or even on the Spectrum..
And yes...the vast majority of kids will succeed when you focus on their strengths, not a label...

So hard on both him and your family. How is he doing now? Was he able to get special resources to have help him?
Back then it was a real fight to get him help, Nobody knew what to do.
We got him into the Association for Retarded Children and they started to work with him, then we keep on the local school district and kept him in school , he is now in his 40s and lives in a group home and holds down a job.

The US Department of Education, through its National Center for Education Statistics, conducts the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as "The Nation's Report Card", which assesses student achievement in key subjects like reading, math, and science.
Here's a more detailed explanation of the testing done by the US Department of Education:
National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP):
This is a congressionally mandated, nationally representative assessment of what American students know and can do in major academic subjects. It's the only continuing assessment of its kind and provides data on the condition of education in the U.S.
Purpose of NAEP:
NAEP allows policymakers and education leaders to track student learning over time and across states.
Grades Tested:
NAEP tests students in grades 4, 8, and 12.
Data Collection:
The Department's National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) conducts NAEP.
Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC):
The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) conducts a biennial survey of public schools to collect data on leading civil rights indicators related to access and barriers to educational opportunity.
State-Level Assessments:
The US Department of Education does not mandate specific state-level assessments, instead, states choose their own assessments to measure how well students meet their state's academic standards.
State-Funded ACT and SAT Tests:
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce offers state-funded ACT and SAT tests.
Ohio's State Tests:
Ohio conducts state tests in English Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies, including Ohio Graduation Tests, Early Learning Assessments, and Kindergarten Readiness Assessments.
Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessments:
The Ohio Department of Education also conducts assessments for English Language Proficiency.
Student Readiness Toolkits:
The Ohio Department of Education has created assessment toolkits to help teachers gain understanding about each child's knowledge, skills, abilities, and learning needs.

Then MAYBE YOU should do some reading on the subject and actually learn something before running your mouth off.
I have already supplied a link.

I have already supplied a link.
I realize that you are very sensitive about this subject, as you should be...
I will respect your personal situation but not your "links".. It is my understanding that you aren't involved in the schools directly anymore.. I can only comment on what I experience, and what I see now....I wish the best for your son and your family, and if you had a bad experience, I'm sorry...
That's what schools will be trying to avoid in the future...kids not getting what is the very best for them...
