It takes a more literal understanding of 2nd Peter 3:8 and connects it with the Genesis creation account and the listed genealogies in the Bible (the "history of man").

God created the heavens and the Earth in six days, and rested on the seventh day. Likewise, it could be possible that mankind is working on the Earth for "six days" (6,000 years) and then "resting on the seventh day" (1,000 years, "the millennium").

Bible genealogy dates Adam back to roughly 4,000 BC. It dates Abraham back to roughly 2,000 BC and dates Jesus back to roughly the "0" point (end of BC, into AD). Currently, it is roughly 2,000 years after Jesus, or about 6,000 years from Adam until now. IOW, that's "two days" from Adam to Abraham, "two days" from Abraham to Jesus, and "two days" from Jesus until his "second coming".
