Clinton did rent out bedrooms in the White House.

What I don't get is why this is being done at all. What's the point of this "new" 747 as AF 1? It's going to end up needing a shit ton of mods once the US has it to function as AF 1. It might need considerable maintenance work too. There just doesn't seem to be a reason for this deal being done.

The reason it is being done is hoping for favorable treatment from Trump, same reason the Chinese rent out an entire floor of Trump Tower and his Hotel and restaurant in DC is full of foreign diplomats and businessmen.

THen did he get to keep the Lincoln Bedroom after he left office? Trump gets this jet sent to his library foundation. A 747 doesn't have a 4-year lifespan.

Boeing is taking too long to get the new Airforce 1 done. It was approved in 2018 and cost overruns and schedule slips mean it won't be ready until closer to 2028. Trump doesn't want to use the nasty old "used" Airforce One.

Yeah but the plane is already built. And we've seen the Trump administration will cut whatever corners are necessary so long as there is sufficient gold plating on it.

Even if nothing is ongoing right now this is a good investment for Qatar. A chip they can and will call in someday.

I think folks like Putin and the Qataris understand Trump at a level we wish wasn't real. They know he is 100% for sale. There is nothing off the table and nothing that can't be negotiated away. Trump is for sale. Highest bidder wins but lower bidders will still be welcome as well.

I think your point would carry more weight if you were honest about it. It was, by definition, "whataboutism". It simply implied the "what about" part.

I think many in the MAGA movement would do well to remember to admit to those things which are manifestly true, even if you don't like it. That way when you do land a point people will have to think maybe you aren't just full of shit.

The gift is to trump. The trump family doesn't need the plane to function as AF1 in private life.

Whataboutism is answering some else's claims with counter examples. I simply expanded on what was stated. I didn't give a counter example but rather simply stated that the poster's statement I cited was inadequate and true, not questionable.
