Putin in a panic
(for his life)
The EU finally presented Putin with the need to start immediate direct peace talks with Ukraine, and in an ultimatum form, threatening otherwise with new sanctions and the supply of weapons in the quantity necessary to liberate the Russian-occupied territory of Ukraine. In turn, Trump demanded a ceasefire from May 12 to create conditions for the talks that are to take place in Istanbul. Moreover, Zelensky announced that he would arrive in Istanbul on May 15, and expects Putin personally on that day for one-on-one talks. Putin did not foresee such agility on the part of the West. Putin's hope for endless negotiations, during which he could continue the war, instantly evaporated. Zelensky accompanied his intention to start talks with Putin on May 15 with the words that he would not accept Putin's failure to arrive on the appointed day.
The cessation of hostilities will mean that Putin's goal, with which he launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine, hypocritically calling the invasion a "Special Military Operation" for three years of war, has not been achieved and is unlikely to be achieved against the backdrop of increasing support for Ukraine from the West. It must be assumed that Putin will abandon further claims, but will insist on leaving the already occupied territory of Ukraine for Russia.
The Kremlin fascist-revanchist will not be satisfied with another option of negotiations for the simple reason that in essence it will be tantamount to admitting defeat, with a fateful consequence for him, namely an international tribunal for bloody crimes in Ukraine and the kidnapping of children, though if before that he does not suffer the fate of Gaddafi. It is quite possible that the Russian people, enraged and impoverished by the war for the inevitable loss of the empire and the futile sacrifices of many thousands, will crucify their dictator who did not live up to expectations at the gates of the Kremlin. Putin knows this very well, so he will continue the hopeless war, which for him is like a straw for a drowning man. The West must know this and be ready for ... .
