Trump says autism ‘has to be artificially induced’

Let It Burn!

President Trump said Thursday that autism must not occur naturally, citing figures inflating the spike in autism and suggesting the administration’s Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission could provide answers.

“When you hear 10,000, it was 1 in 10,000, and now it’s 1 in 31 for autism, I think that’s just a terrible thing. It has to be something on the outside, has to be artificially induced, has to be,” Trump said at a MAHA Commission event. “And we will not allow our public health system to be captured by the very industries it’s supposed to oversee. So we’re demanding the answers, the public is demanding the answers and that’s why we’re here.”

He noted that the administration is phasing out eight of the most common artificial food dyes, after the Food and Drug Administration announced actions last month to phase out the use of petroleum-based food dyes in U.S. food products, citing concerns over potential health impacts on children.

The MAHA Commission event unveiled the group’s new report, which pointed to four key factors it says are hurting U.S. children: ultraprocessed foods, environmental chemicals, digital behavior and “overmedicalization.” The report identifies pesticides and other chemicals as potentially having harmful health impacts, but it stops short of recommending actions to limit them.

At the event, the president was sitting beside Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is a prominent vaccine skeptic and has also shared his debunked theories about a link between autism and vaccines.

Ahead of Kennedy’s confirmation vote in the Senate, Trump also shared figures questioning the autism rate.

“20 years ago, Autism in children was 1 in 10,000. NOW IT’S 1 in 34. WOW! Something’s really wrong. We need BOBBY!!! Thank You! DJT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social at the time.

About 1 in 36 children now have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, according to estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, compared to about 1 in 150 in 2000.

Barron must be autistic.
You think? I see no evidence of that. Isolated a bit as a younger child, clearly had almost no contact with folks other than his mother as that accent he had in English was very apparent in the "sootcase" video. Autistic though? He seems like a tall, decent looking fellow but I don't see strong signs of autism.

For those who are going to be hurt by the Trump and the GOP's economical policies, and who voted for Trump; are going to get what they voted for. I just can't understand how people can be foolish enough to support an economical policy that is detrimental to themselves.

Fancy that. If we can also artificially induce statesmanship, manners, compassion- even general knowledge- he might become presidential/.

Haw, haw...........................................haw.

Maybe it's the masochism syndrome- people hating themselves for buying all those American Dream white goods that they can't afford to run.

What? He’s a decent looking fellow? So people with autism aren’t decent looking? Are you like Kennedy and think autistic people are drooling idiots?

My nephew is a high functioning. He is brilliant with computers, and can play a song on the piano after listening to it a couple of times. He is currently attending college.

Baron reminds me of my nephew. A high functioning autistic person.

President Trump said Thursday that autism must not occur naturally,
Did you hear what Trump said? Did you hear what Trump said? Did ya'? Did ya'? Did you hear what Trump said .... tightly cropped, misquoted, misrepresented and taken completely out of context? Did ya'? Did ya'? Did you hear what Trump said?

I am so glad that the OP isn't trying to address any policy decisions that would force me to think for myself, that would require me to apply critical reasoning and do cognitive work. If I had been required to actually think such a matter through, I would certainly become a Trump supporter and we can't have that.

It's possible, but I don't see strong signs of it. I am personally on the spectrum. I believe it enhances my concentration.

Too funny! You have a relative who has been diagnosed, correctly or otherwise, as being autistic, and suddenly you are a practicing medical professional who is qualified to diagnose such conditions, without examination no less.

How do you tell someone has autism just by looking at him?

It's sickening that a man this devastatingly stupid was elected president.

over the years they have changed the DSM several times changing what they conciser for people to have it.
Back in the early 90s I bevel it was the DSM3 now it is past 5 or6 .

Why is it that Republicans, since the age of Newt, think it's cool to be uneducated and stupid? It's like they're at war with being smart and sane!

How do you tell someone has autism just by looking at him?
I look for signs, I'm intimately aware of many of them, none of which seem apparent with Barron. As I said, it is possible, it isn't always obvious, but if he is it is unlikely that Trump would know, there would have been no need to check as he would be barely into the spectrum.
