Record beef prices raise Memorial Day cookout costs

Yo mon! What's your problem bru?
If they can't afford Porterhouse there is always chopped meat, hot dogs, sausages.
IF they can even afford them.
If you haven't looked around prices of just about everything you buy are going up and are going to go up even more, Trumps tariffs haven't kicked all the way in yet,( Trump has been backing down and doing a dance causing havoc in the markets ) and on top of them you can bet large chain stores will tack on another percent or two to pad their bottom line and blame it on the tariffs.

My friend, who supplies meat to the restaurants as well as stores, told me that Sams Club and Restaurants get first (and best) deliveries. He had a contract with Sams, but said that Costco had the same deal with their suppliers.

So, big box is the way to go if you aren't just buying a full cow or a half cow and getting it cut how you want it.
That's interesting... and good to know. I have noticed that people have great things to say about the quality and good prices available at Sam's and Costco... I just love getting meat from OSU because it's.
Such great quality control
and packaging... It's local and it supports the university...

They probably do a good job. Kroger's or King Soopers both have what's left over after the restaurants and SAMS or Costco. However I have no idea where OSU would fit on that, they probably have classes, the meat is probably very local, and it would be a bit like me just getting half a cow from my neighbor and having it processed the next town over.

That's interesting. I know in the past, restaurants got prime meat with stores getting choice. I know that Walmart gets or used to get the worst meat available. I'm surprised to see that about Sam's, but they never have the pricing that our supermarket does.

I usually get half a cow from a neighbor, and less often we get a whole hog from another neighbor, process the meat in a nearby town. However, sometimes you are going to do a second brisket of the year and you need to just buy one. For that I go to Sams.

I just don't like how the grocery stores package meat... Or have they date it....;)
Someday I'd like to get a quarter or a local farm... I would need to get
Another freezer, though.. OSU does a great job... Generally, the public doesn't know about university animal science departments and what they offer. https://www.coloradoan.com/story/li...ly by a string, operation as Ram Country Meats.

Agreed. The history of humanity seems to be two steps foward and one step back. We, the People, are clearly in a one-step-back phase.

While I think things will start moving forward again within 5 years, it could take a few decades to fix the damage done by Trump and his MAGAts.
As I have said before who ever is the next President . Republican or DEM, is going to have one hell of a big job trying to fix all of Trumps fuck ups .
I sure the hell wouldn't want to have to take that job on.
And as you say it could take a couple of decades to get it done.
They will have to try and rebuild the worlds confidence in the USA again, fix military treaties with our military allies , and trade agreements we had with our trading allies.
It is a real mess they will have to clean up.

When I lived in Vt. that was a common practice. I used to raise pigs for the freezer. There is nothing like getting beef from a local farmer, as long as it is ready for market. Aside from veal, which is a tortured calf, cows that are too young are not very tender. That's a bit contrary to what I would think.

Unfortunately, not as many Americans are as lucky as you. :)

Notice that Food Inflation is up this year compared to last year. Do you agree that the cause of supply shortages and inflation was due to the pandemic?

Residual effects of the Joe Biden fiasco.

Agreed. My favorite Trump quote:

“I think the good parts are the Trump economy and the bad parts are the Biden economy because he’s done a terrible job,” Trump said. “He did a terrible job on everything.”

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5281640-trump-biden-us-economy/

Trump claims credit for good parts of economy, blames Biden for bad parts

and IMO the MAGAS are going to blame Biden for everything bad TRUMP does for the next 3 and a half years.
In their eyes Trump can't do no wrong. ( It's ALL Biden's FAULT )
Well wait and watch them start crying when everything goes to shit because of Trump.
As we have already seen a lot of MAGAS in red states that are being hurt by trump's policies , FEMA cuts , no help , increasing costs of just about everything we buy , crying " I didn't vote for THIS "
And just think it has only started.
They got what they thought they wanted now they have to suffer, TOO bad.

Agreed. In MAGAland, there's no such thing as "the buck stops here". It's always someone else's fault and someone else's responsibility. All MAGAts are victims and all MAGAts have a victim mentality.
