As of June 19, 1865, millions of white people were abolitionists, fought in the Union Army, or otherwise believed slavery was immoral and unfair.

The unconditional abolition of slavery was profoundly important to them.

Nor are they Federal Holidays, holidays the leader of the country usually recognizes with an act or at least acknowledgement. Even Trump has done so in the past, prior to Project 2025, of course most of those were just texts were after one congratulating phrase continued on to call other Americans “scum, traitors, or enemies”
 
I see nothing wrong with acknowledging the day...I don't know why Joe made it a National holiday, though...
I'm open to your opinions as to why, however...;)
