Homeland Security has approved a plan to build a detention center for undocumented immigrants surrounded by an alligator moat and pythons

Remember when Trump claimed he'd drain the swamp instead of adding more alligators?

Environmental groups and Native American tribes have protested against the center, contending it is a threat to the fragile Everglades system, would be cruel to detainees because of heat and mosquitoes, and is on land the tribes consider sacred.
Oh no! Not the "sacred land" ploy! That one is like a running joke. Every time some group on the Left can't get their way, or a tribe can't get their way, they trot out that tired old trope.

The Gila River tribe claimed that freeway in Phoenix was on "sacred land" and shouldn't be built. Once it was, the tribe put up like over a dozen sacred billboards on their land from which they get a cut of the profit. There's no way that many billboards could have been put up anywhere else in the state, but by god the tribe could put them up on the sacred land next to the sacred freeway.

There were a couple of other reasons listed as well.

Like the environmental impact on the Everglades and cruelty to the detainees because of the mosquitoes and the heat (among other things)

Did you see where the place flooded and that happened with just a normal rain fall just think what it will be like during a hurricane.
No, but I don't doubt it. I worked out of Miami for 7 years. It rains a lot and that's a lot of swamp. I've seen the runways flooded in multiple south Florida cities after major rains, not just hurricanes.

Again, MAGAts couldn't care less about brown babies and most Americans are too busy living their own lives to pay attention. It'll take a major disaster with dozens, if not hundreds of deaths to garner the attention of the American public.

As the Republicans keep saying, "we're a Christian nation". I doubt they really understand what that means, but I do. Americans, as a group, won't take kindly to government police masked and dressed in black incarcerating women and children then letting them drown.

The heat and humidity is akin to torture, and imagine the cost of evacuating them every time a hurricane threatens.

I read that it did flood with just a normal rain just think what is going to happen when a hurricane hits.

Trump won't evacuate them. Trump couldn't care less if they drown. With the cuts to both FEMA and NOAA, they might not even know a hurricane is coming until it's there.

A devastating death scene would likely be his end. Sure the 20% would cheer it, but he has another 20% that are persuadable.
Although it'd be nice if the American public could see it coming and rise up to prevent it, I doubt they will. The disaster will have to unfold before action will be taken.

Consider 9/11. The warning signs were all over the 1990s; the 1993 WTC bombings, the plots to blow up airliners over the Pacific, the attacks on US barracks and embassies on the African continent, etc. What happened? A few cruise missiles and that was it until the airliners slammed into the WTC and the Pentagon. THAT's what it took for America to wake up.

It is an interesting study in human nature. Many Germans did not support the Nazi's but, what could they do? In retrospect they had options, but many were like the frog in the boiling water. I am sure I could do more, but its hard to see anything that would be affective.

Many Germans did support the Nazis, at least in the early 30s. The US toyed with fascism when America saw what was happening in both Italy and Germany. The Great War followed by the Great Depression was a double-whammy that caused many Americans to consider giving up essential liberties for promises of pie-in-the-sky. Fortunately, most Americans held onto traditional American values...even if done so tenuously.

For the Germans and Italians, by the time the consequences of fascism rolled around, it was too late and millions paid the price for their lack of foresight. The frog-in-boiling-water analogy proved correct.
