Republicans have voted for DJT, not because they are actually trying to make America stronger or greater (even though they claim so.) They voted for him out of resentment for Democrats, government, and xenophobia directed at immigrants, LBGTQ, black people, and non-Christians. They claim that by suppressing all but straight white American Christian males this 'makes America great again.' They are wrong. It does not make America greater at all. It cuts off significant labor and productivity, shuns additional knowledge and perspective, contributes to general brain drain, reduces the GDP as it allows foreign adversaries to benefit by continuing to progress as America recedes.
Most Americans simply take America for granted, never considering it might go away. They would get very concerned and devote themselves to the nation if they really thought they might lose her. But they don't fear that. Most Americans have never read the Constitution and don't even know the name of their Representative nor Senators. Democrats are just like Republicans and most Americans in their apathetic lack of concern for America. The only difference, exemplified by the poll, is that Democrats are honest with themselves about their lack of devotion to the nation. Republicans claim to be "patriotic" because they think that means flag-waving. It isn't the only thing Republicans get wrong. Their resentment of immigrants is particularly ironic because most of us are descendant from immigrants.
