A hatchet is being taken to NASA

At least 2,145 senior-ranking NASA employees are set to leave under a push to shed staff, according to documents obtained by POLITICO — potentially spelling trouble for White House space policy and depriving the agency of decades of experience.

The 2,145 employees are those in GS-13 to GS-15 positions — senior-level government ranks that are typically reserved for those with specialized skills or management responsibilities. The losses are particularly concentrated at higher levels, with 875 GS-15 employees set to leave, according to the documents.

Is this a problem?

I figure it is likely a good idea, and should be repeated at the Pentagon.

I would start with... Why is NASA involved in Gorebal Warming? What's "climate change" got to do with aeronautics and space travel?

The issue for me is bureaucratic bloat....this is likely one of those situations were we could get rid of 60% of the people and improve the place, so long as we got the right 60%......ala Twitter.

Microsoft did a big bloodletting earlier this year....the CEO said something like there will be no more than five layers of management between him and the employee......thousands were let go.....deemed not helpful towards the mission.....gum.

NASA might well need the same treatment.

Mission creep is just as serious. An agency taking on additional missions that don't conform to their traditional, core purpose is simply bloat that can be totally eliminated particularly where alternatives exist.

Sure let's gut the staff and budgets of NASA, air traffic controllers, and National Weather Service. What could go wrong?
Sweeping generalization fallacy. As I pointed out earlier, NASA does considerable research on "climate change." Why does an agency tasked with doing things aeronautical and dealing with space flight have a department within it researching the weather?

Should the FAA air traffic controller division have personnel assigned to ensure that DEI hiring quotas be met? Should any government agency be hiring on the basis of race, gender, ethnic identity, or disability?

Will the purges be Race-Based?

They were at the Dept of Energy Purges by Bill Richardson. They purged 12% of the work force, with an open stated intent, and an official outcome, of every single person pushed out was a White-Male.

At the time that it was done, White-males in the DOE workforce were 31% of the workforce and 30% of the population. After the purge, White-Males were 20% of the workforce, and still 30% of the population.

In my work Org, Stockpile Stewardship, we had 690 some odd workers, and 70 White-Males were purged. At the time, my pay was the equivalent of a GS-6. None of those purged were over GS-10.

I had been working for government defense work, mostly in Munitions and Directed Energy Weapons, for 26 years. I was not allowed to use any of my skills and knowledge at any employment, other than for the U.S. Government. Which is as it needs to be... but, it meant that I was a work injured, 45 years old, starting over as a new hire Tech with no applicable OJT training. So I was a 45 year old, injured at work, technician, competing in the workplace in civilian Tech work, which often required a large amount of physical prowess,... competing with 18 - 22 year olds.

I never received a dime for my workplace injuries.

Your bigotry and hate are showing again.

Everyone should have a fair opportunity based on education and ability.
The reason DEI exists is because they were not given the chance to do the job. It has been demonstrated clearly they can do the work. Quotas were created to pick up some of the slack caused by haters like you.

Wrong. DEI, Affirmative Action, and the like are repackaged racism, sexism, preferential hiring practices and nothing else. Candidates are not picked on the basis of ability or experience, but rather on the color of their skin and what's between their legs. Quotas are quotas.

If using quotas was wrong, then using quotas to fix the use of quotas is wrong too. You can't justify using the evil you want eliminated to eliminate it. Make the playing field level and move forward. In time the system will correct itself.

Racism in this country may never be extinguished but it is decidedly less glaring now than it was pre Affirmative Action.
