Libraries are a third place, not home and not work(or school). There are children out there with terrible home lives, and schools shut. The library is free, and surrounds them with books. It is the road to success for many smart kids from bad backgrounds.

Many libraries have a lot of immigrant children. The combination of a drive to succeed with a less than adequate home for studying drives them to libraries.

So we disagree. While not all of the future's innovation will come from people working their way up in society, enough is that they are irreplaceable. Many are immigrants, or children of immigrants, but others are just poor Americans. These people desperately need libraries to go and study.
An Amazon Fire does not give a poor kid a place to study.
