Bullshit. As one example, most of the automotive industry in Europe was state owned and run back then. Since then, the companies were reprivatized to bring them back to life. An excellent example of this is British Leyland. The aircraft industry was the same way.
The social-welfare state exploded in size.
Then it all fell apart in the 80's and Europe has been recovering from that Socialist excess ever since.
