I was told we are running out

Well, until I see evidence to the contrary, I'm going with the consensus of the 50-year prediction, hoping it's wrong that we won't find a replacement in time.
The guy who said 50 years said that was based on today's technology. And he also said that estimate could be extended as new oil extraction tech comes online.

One thing we know with absolute certainty about the oil industry: they are always inventing new technology to enhance oil exploration, extraction, and production. There is no question that new and unforseen oil extraction technology will be developed in the next years.

Well, it's something our kids and grandkids'll have to worry about. And we probably will come up with a replacement - shit - who saw the smartphone coming?

We have to use better arguments about the need to switch to clean energy than saying oils is on the verge of running out; that's not even really a strong argument.

You need to understand that the argument's "fake" to you, but in reality, you or I nor anyone can put a finger on petroleum's expiration date on Earth. Like how the universe was formed, all we have are theories right now.
