Conservatives, like Obama, the most conservative president of all time, are trying to destroy America. Socialism is the only possible road to the future, otherwise humanity is doomed. That's why conservatives must be purged. They have an incurable mind disease that prevents them from using logic.

Topspin was being sarcastic. He pointed out that Jimmy Carter was a failure, as well as a nerdy, white, Southern planter, whereas Obama is a cool, black Northerner, who plays basketball. Both are failures, but one is better equipped to deflect criticism by virtue of the cool factor. On the Republican front, its like how Reagan, the Teflon president, could always deflect criticism while Nixon was like a glue stick. Clinton was a lot like Reagan in this respect, whereas Bush Sr. and Gore (the Veeps) were not as showy as their bosses.
 
Lets remember Carter was right about all this drilling and spilling mess and the need for us to be oil independent.

Yeah vote for the republicans who are in the pocket of big oil that gave us this mess by vertue of sleeping with and doing drugs with the oil people instead of making them meet the needed standards of safety to prevent this mess.

If we had gone full force into developing alternative fuels when Cater suggested it we would be already been way down the road we will have to go down no what happens.

1) You're right in that we should have been aggressively developing alternatives since the '70's. It's actually fairly tragic how many new ideas never even got off the ground because big oil spent billions in Washington to make sure they never saw the light of day.

2) You're wrong in thinking it's just the GOP. Big oil owns Washington - I don't have the stats, but I'd wager that they outspend every other lobby by a considerable margin.
 
We are developing alternatives, Desh. If you want to help, ask Toppy and Cawacko about investing in alternative energy stocks. That would be much more productive than whining about the evils of the current energies we are dependent upon. Simply stopping the pumps is not going to magically force us onto the new energies any faster, because its still a work-in-progress.
