Dems have always been known to be soft on crime, that’s a given.
By actually trying to do something about violent crime, and the Dems response to it being negative, it actually makes Dems out to be on the side of violent criminals.
Which in turn paints them as even further out to the left away from rational, mainstream society.
So year after year, decade after decade, one-party Republican rule in Alaska has been utterly incompetent at reining in the most violently criminal state in the nation.

Anchorage goes back and forth between Republican and democrat mayors.

California proportionally has a much larger minority population than Alaska, but California also has a substantiallly lower violent crime rate than Alaska.
