The purpose of isolation and social distancing is to cut down the spread of an illness that often required hospitalization. This keeps the hospitals from being overwhelmed. Eventually those who escaped the first wave will become infected, but the goal is to prevent that from happening while the health care system is dealing with massive numbers of patients. China implemented strict lockdowns. They prolonged the pandemic there but did not have overcrowded hospitals. Another reason to delay becoming infected is to give scientists time to create a vaccine, which they did.
Modern medicine did seem like magic when it prevented child deaths. I guess it might seem like magic when it is undone.Let the magic begin...![]()
The countries that were most successful in combatting COVID were ones that had decisive, coherent and immediate messaging and response. Those were mostly Asian and SE Asian countries. Immediate lockdowns, isolation centers for those who could not isolate alone, consistent and coherent messages about vaccines, etc., on a NATIONAL level.
That was anything but the US.

The same people who are against prenatal health care say they are against abortion... I always found that odd. It's bizarre how many of these anti-vaxxers are also the same people who say that abortion is murder and want laws forbidding it to "save the unborn children" that they don't really give a shit about once they're here.

It's not being undone...Modern medicine did seem like magic when it prevented child deaths. I guess it might seem like magic when it is undone.
Falling herd immunity. Rather than Polio wiped out, it is spreading. Funding cut to scientists, and scientists being fired. It's not being undone...
True, I’m concerned about the kids whose parents don’t.And many do...![]()
Very trueYou would think that someone who claims to have "taught in inner city schools" would be aware of that fact.
I have mixed emotions about not REQUIRING school kids to have vaccines. I suspect some irresponsible parents or "new age" parents will not get MMR and varicella vaccines and we will see out beaks in schools like when I was a kid. The present day young parent population has no memory of the measles and chicken pox epidemics before we required vaccines for school. On the other side I understand not requiring people to inject medications into their bodies if they don't want to. So I have mixed emotions about dropping the require to be vaccinated in order to attend public school. Ultimately I come down in favor of requiring vaccines for public schools but giving school vouchers so parents can take their kids to private schools that may not require vaccines if they want feel strongly about vaccines. It's not being undone...
Not true... Research is always ongoing... looking for better solutions.... You can't be upset about the quest for more effective and safe vaccines.....Falling herd immunity. Rather than Polio wiped out, it is spreading. Funding cut to scientists, and scientists being fired.
Sad but true, the goal.. make the poor less likely to be able to improve their situation, so the wealthy can cement status for generations, regardless of the competency of their children.Low income/poor people who lack health care insurance and/or access are far less likely to have their kids vaccinated if it isn't mandatory. Ironically this includes both the urban poor (who tend to be Black/Hispanic) and the rural poor (who tend to be mostly White).
So once again the GOP strategy is to sacrifice the poor to benefit the well-off. Oh, and the stupid among their own base. Great plan!
Doctors and schools are still going to advise that vaccinations are the safest way to go.... And provide The reasoning behind it.... Parents just want reassurance about a subject that can be a little confusing at times... If a parrot is antivax they're probably home or private schooling anyway...I have mixed emotions about not REQUIRING school kids to have vaccines. Most are new age Democrats. We had a big out break of measles in Washington state a couple years ago. Not exactly Republican territory. The one we recently was among Mennonites and they don't require vaccines for school either.True, I’m concerned about the kids whose parents don’t.
That's ridiculous...Sad but true, the goal.. make the poor less likely to be able to improve their situation, so the wealthy can cement status for generations, regardless of the competency of their children.
We have some great vaccines, which you want to throw away for your "prayer" for better vaccines? Really? How would it be developed without scientists? Not true... Republicans have already decided that everything must be decided by Republican politicians, not doctors or schools.Doctors and schools are still going to advise that vaccinations are the safest way to go.... So why did so many die of polio?I don't think I'm exceptional...... immune system appears to be working just fine.
