Liberal Answer? ....Boycott BP!

Almost two months ago, we had a catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico. An oil rig owned by British Petroleum exploded, caught fire, and sank. The severed well head began gushing crude into the gulf, and has yet to be contained completely. The oil spill is the largest in US history, and still growing, threatening not only the sea life and natural habitats for thousands of animals, but also obliterating the fisheries and tourist industry all along the coast. Restaurants and hotels will literally have to close their doors for an entire season (maybe two or three) and they simply will not survive this.

Now, while Liberals will line up to do benefits for the victims of hurricanes and earthquakes, what have they decided is the best way to help the people along the gulf coast? Boycott BP! Join hands together on the beaches and protest any and all offshore drilling. This is the emotive knee-jerk reaction of nitwits who don't bother to think past their first inclinations, and just react to what they are feeling in their hearts. Oil drilling is responsible for this disaster, so oil drilling must cease! If a car had an accident traveling through one of those redwood trees in California, and subsequently caused a fire that destroyed thousands of acres of redwood forests, would they want to ban automobiles? It would make the same logical sense.

I have to wonder, have these moronic bleeding hearts given one ounce of thought to the number of JOBS tied to oil production along the gulf coast? Do they realize the economic impact of effectively rendering all those people unemployed, with nothing to replace their jobs? We're talking hundreds of thousands of workers who handle the oil, transport it, refine it, and support the companies who provide this vital energy source to America. And these are generally not low-pay menial labor jobs, some are, but most of the people working for the oil industry are knocking down a pretty nice income, and have become accustomed to a pretty sweet lifestyle. So, not only is the tourism industry worker and fisherman out of luck, so is the oil industry worker. Tell me... what else do you think they do on the gulf coast? You have tourism, fishing, and oil... THAT'S ALL!

Boycotting BP at a time when their stock is already tanking, and they are taking a huge public relations hit, will probably sink the company. Will liberals view that as some kind of moral victory? You put hundreds of thousands out of work, destroy their livelihood, and then celebrate your accomplishment! Meanwhile, will this stop oil drilling in the gulf? Certainly not! There will still be other countries drilling away in the Gulf of Mexico, the same catastrophe will still be possible, maybe not by a company under the regulation of the United States government, maybe not a multi-billion dollar corporation like BP, but some half-ass ragtag bunch from Mexico or Honduras, will still be drilling away in the Gulf. So what have the liberals ultimately accomplished in the end?

I read some opinions about this earlier today, and it amazed me how many liberal pinheads chimed in about the net worth of BP, as if that makes some kind of fucking difference! Yes, BP is worth over $800 billion, and that is a chunk of change... but they didn't get there by squeezing oil out of baby seals! They didn't rob banks or sell illegal hooch and drugs... they earned the money through the capitalist system legitimately, and most importantly, they paid a huge chunk of change in TAXES! So not only are we going to lose a valuable employer, we will also lose a large contributor of tax revenues for the states and the federal government. But THIS is the Liberal's answer to this problem! Does anyone else think this is absolutely INSANE? If anything, we should be buying ONLY BP products! Support them with our dollars in every way we can, and let them pay for the cleanup.

To much to read after to much to drink.

Looks like the Britts will have to do with a few less tax dollars.

Great!

You are an idiot. BPs competitors will soak up the sales lost by BP and most if not all of their employees.

In a capitalist system companies fail due to incompetence. That's a good thing.

The funny thing is BP branded itself as the environmentally friendly oil company. I doubt Dixie lost any sleep over BP's competition losing of business due to the success of that campaign. Now that they are being judged on the reality of their environmental record he feels the need to defend them.

Fuck BP. They took a bad risk and they should pay for it. Shutting them down completely would not likely cost them as much in dollars as they have cost other businesses.

The fact of the matter is that the vast majority of the oil hasn't even hit land but you wouldn't know that for all the hysteria and bullshit generated by the uninformed and ignorant.

A large part of what you are saying seems to be driven by sheer vindictiveness and blind emotion rather than any cool assessment of the real facts. I am assuming that you are equally vocal about the Dow Chemical company and Bhopal? You all talk about cleanups, so who the fuck is paying for the cleanup of Bhopal? Answer, fucking no one; so how many brown people are equal to one pelican, in the eyes of the US legal system?

or the taxpayers. Is there anyone here who really believes that BP will pay the entire cost of this fiasco or that they will tie this up in court and hire a ton of PR dudes and Washington lobbyist to limit the scope of damages being paid? You'd have to be a blind partisan BP stock holder to believe the former meaning the US taxpayers are going to foot the bill.

BP gasoline is sold at independently owned gas stations who happened to sign a contract to sell BP gas. These station owners are not responsible for something that happened on an oil rig 50 miles out at sea. They are moms and pops who probably spent their retirement money opening a small business to sell gas, and by sheer coincidence, happen to sell BP gas. THAT is who you are going to punish?

I also would like to know, when was a thorough investigation completed on this? Has it been determined without any doubt, this was due to BP negligence? If so, I am all with you on holding BP fully accountable and responsible, but from what I have heard, there is still speculation as to what actually happened, where the system failed, and who/what was to blame. I think, before we destroy the company, which in turn destroys thousands of jobs and third party businesses that have nothing to do with BP, we should first consider this.

Wow... Pinheads were chastising Rush Limbaugh the other day, who was saying essentially the same thing. Let's see how many threads Jarhead starts over your comments?

It all depends on what you mean by all the costs. If you mean all the cleanup costs and compensation for those directly affected then yes, but if you mean paying shitloads for lawsuits brought by bottom feeding legal weasels whose only interest is sucking the lifeblood out of BP then I hope not.

Global protest planned over BP's handling of oil disaster

So what are you saying Ken? Since the rest of the world is jumping on the bandwagon of destroying BP, we may as well join them? Let me ask you something, how many of the international protesters support their family with income from the oil industry in the gulf? How many of them are going to have to pay for the unemployment benefits for thousands who will be put out of work? My guess is... NONE!

That's like saying people are assholes for screaming about a burning building because the fires can't be seen from the street.
