Not all speech is protected by our freedom of speech.

Just because you are speaking words, does not automatically make your words protected by "freedom of speech".

If your words are a negotiation or direction to commit a crime, such as a contract killing, or selling narcotics, then you can be held accountable for your illegal use of speech.

You cannot use speech to obstruct a law enforcement officer in the coarse of their duties.

You cannot shout "Fire" in a crowded theatre.

American's enjoy the protections of our first amendment, but does not mean that all speech is legal or acceptable.

I can say that I do not like or support President Obama. That does not mean that I can incite that Obama be assassinated. Nor can I attempt to give instructions / orders to others, which would block Obama full-filling his duties as President.

This is a complex area of American Law, which has many precedent cases and has been argued before the SCOTUS on numerous occasions.

We are in a delicate time of American events, it would be wise to consider your words carefully, before making them.

The world has done a 180 seeing so many on the right co-opt liberal rhetoric around free speech. It's like forget any semblance of principles or long term vision, it's what can I do for a (perceived) short term gain.

You can choose to view this subject from a hyper partisan position.

I would advise against it. In the end, common sense interpretation of "Freedom of Speech" will prevail.

Maybe we're viewing this differently but the bolded scares me. My first thought goes to "common sense" gun laws. You want those same folks determining what "common sense" speech is?

"Common sense" can be very subjective. That’s why the First Amendment built in the guardrails it did.

I would apply Blackstone's ratio to speech

I prefer hate speech over a governing body deciding what speech is hateful

Regardless of whether a court designates it as Hate-Speech or not, it is illegal to advocate violence.

In the context of Hate-speech laws, it is generally acknowledged that a crime was committed, and the designation of it being associated with "Hate Speech" simply adds more sentencing options and penalties.

I am not a big fan of Hate-speech laws. I am an advocate of American Freedom of Speech.

There is not a single freedom on earth, that doesn't have limitations.

Do not confuse Freedom of Speech, with Freedom to Advocate Violence.

Pam Bondi just made stupid remarks about hate speech though

Now is the time for us to fight back against authoritarians regardless of political party

Allot of people make stupid remarks.

"Now is the time for us to fight..." sounds an awful lot like advocating violence. Perhaps you need to reword or caveat that statement.

yawn

I thought you were a serious poster.

my mistake. fight back = defend yourself

later clown shoes

I don't need to "Fight", to choose a meaningful pathway.

We need introspection, not threats and boasts.

Charlie Kirk disagreed. he did need to fight back

his college campus tour was designed to fight back against the propaganda kids receive constantly

you seem to have problems with simple cromulent semantics....much like a modern day 18 year old snowflake
